Women and girls across our country are burdened by the exorbitant cost of sanitary towels, and it is important that we take immediate action. This issue disproportionately affects low-income households, students, and marginalized communities, forcing them to make heart-wrenching choices between essential sanitary products and meeting basic needs. The consequences are dire—compromised health, well-being, and dignity. By perpetuating this high cost, we perpetuate inequality, erecting barriers that hinder access to menstrual hygiene.

We cannot turn a blind eye to the risks our women and girls face. If we allow the cost of sanitary towels to remain unchanged, countless individuals will continue to struggle to obtain the necessary products for adequate menstrual hygiene. This leads to unhygienic practices, such as using improvised materials like toilet paper and rugs, resulting in severe health complications and an increased risk of infections. Furthermore, the lack of affordable sanitary towels hampers educational and professional opportunities, perpetuating the gender gap and impeding progress towards gender equality.

The urgency for action cannot be overstated. By addressing the exorbitant cost of sanitary towels now, we can make significant strides in promoting menstrual equity and dismantling the barriers that impede access to essential menstrual products. We need to foster systemic change, raise awareness, and implement policies that guarantee affordable and accessible menstrual hygiene products for all.
