The Secret Place

God invites us not only to know Him, but to participate with Him. This participation flows naturally from the gift of His presence and our restored identity in Jesus.

In this episode, Derek unpacks how we can more fully live in the presence of God, and participating with Him by aligning our hearts with God's intentions.

As we journey with God, we discover that His presence not only comforts us - it reshapes us and our identity.

However we've come to see ourselves, God wants to strengthen our identity. Human identity restored by God is why Jesus was born into this earth.

In this episode, Derek explores how God is continually shaping us into the people He created us to be.

Hearing God isn't a mysterious skill reserved for a select few - it's the natural expression of a relationship that is grounded in the presence of God.

For many of us, the challenge has not been God's silence, but our awareness. We expect the dramatic voice of God, while He often speaks in the quiet, ordinary moments of life.

Deep within us lies a longing to belong - it's how we've been created.  We end up looking for belonging in relationships, accomplishments, environments and identities, but nothing fully satisfies us because we were actually made for belonging in the presence of God.

When we discover that belonging to God is not dependent on our behaviour, our maturity or our spiritual consistency - but that it flows from God's choice, character and love.

In this episode, Derek looks at ways we can fully understand belonging in the presence of God.

One of the most transformative realisations we encounter in our walk with God is the difference between living and striving.  We assume that we need to work our way into God's presence or earn his approval.

This striving wears us down and fills our heart with anxiety.  But God calls us to live from His presence, not strive for His presence.

In this episode, Derek unpacks how we can walk with God, living in His presence and not striving for it.

The spiritual struggles we encounter are often based in our perceptions, and how we see ourselves.

When our perceptions are shaped in negativity, or by our fears, misunderstandings or past betrayals, our capacity to hear the voice of God is diminished and we can find it hard to walk in God's peace.

In this episode, Derek looks at how we can change our perceptions so we can draw closer to God.

We live our lives in side the presence of God, whether we recognise it or not.

His presence is already around us and in us - it's the very atmosphere in which we live and have our being.  When we awaken to this truth, something shifts inside us.

We stop seeing ourselves as outsiders trying to reach God, we understand that our very existence has been designed by Him. When we believe this in our hearts, we start to see ourselves differently.

The first step in being aware of the presence of God is to awaken to the truth that God is already with you.

He has always been with us, and the idea of awakening is acknowledging that God is always with us.

And when our eyes open to recognise this, His companionship becomes much more accessible to our human experience.

Be sure to listen to the introduction episode before continuing onto the love letters.

"My beloved - you are already in Me. There is nothing more you need to do to qualify."

This season of The Secret Place is a little different, rather than speaking about God, Derek is speaking from the perspective of God. Like the Psalmists and Poets of human history, many have tried to give voice to the thoughts of God that they believe reflects the intent of the Father, but also resonates from their own experience. That's what Derek is determined to do, to provide words that God has written by His spirit on the hearts of our lives, expressed as if God were speaking directly to you.
