We think of authoritarianism as a uniform and public face that coerces to censorship, snitching, and demands restriction on all human freedom. We also find ideas like the hive mind or uploading consciousness to be solely done through wires and a computer. However, in both of these examples, authoritarianism uses different methods for control, from technological to medical. The devil corrupts the good and living to abandon responsibility, individuality and freedom in the name of protecting their communities. This leaves a hole filled by the collective hive mid that is dominated by a singular ideology. Those able to remain independent of this mob preserve their independence and freedom, while building a better community for the rest. Collectives destroy the individual, but individualism preserves the collective. The shift from freedom to authoritarianism is a black transmutation seen time and time again throughout history.
