From the Baghdad battery and the clay Babylonian tablet Plimpton 322, to the Antikythera mechanism, we find incredible evidence of advanced human civilization perhaps far surpassing our own by many metrics. With these and other finds there is a question of whether they are 'out of time' or out of belief, considering that popular opinion either dismisses them outright or assigns their existence to ancient aliens. This leaves humanity at the throne of some theological alien gods and or in the hands of 'scholars' who wish to maintain institutional respect rather than discover what really happened in the past. In all likelihood it's not aliens, its probably just us.
