The Secular Perspective

Here is another Heathen Hodgepodge entry, where anything is game for discussion. We typically bring up news, articles and happenings in the world of religion and secularism. In this episode, Matt vents about and criticizes the internet’s favorite proselytizer, Josh Feuerstein after he selfishly tried to make a dying woman feel bad. Then, Anthony tears into Ben Affleck (Batfleck) for his idiotic tantrum on “Real Time with Bill Maher.”

Have you been intimidated or weary of trying to understand the ISIS conflict in the Middle East? Are you hesitant to criticize Islam? Are you curious about this issue, but can’t figure it out? Anthony was just as conflicted about ISIS. So he decided to research the topic and truly understand it. This episode is a summation of the conflict and an exploration of what the problem is.

*Disclaimer: Anthony is not a professionally educated expert on any subject mentioned in this episode. This is all information gathered from the news and periodicals. If there is anything you’d care to comment on, correct, or ask, please contact the podcast or Anthony directly.

* Disclaimer: Anthony messed up some logistics and directions a few times. He said that ISIS was “marching east into Syria.” Syria is actually west of Iraq. Then, Lebanon and Israel are west of Syria on the Mediterranean Sea. Apologies.

This is a fun, goofy little tangent that Chad and Anthony went off on one night. Anthony decided to save it for Halloween time because it pertains to ghosts and paranormal activity. Thanks for listening and have a happy Halloween!

If you have ever wondered how an atheist reads The Bible, this episode is for you. Anthony discusses his notes and thoughts that crossed his mind as he read Exodus. This is the second episode of the series Secular Bible Study where Anthony reads through The Bible for the first time as a secularist.

Eventually, all 66 books will be covered. Anthony had quite a few things to say and share, so the recording is being broken up into two parts. You can look forward to the rest of the discussion in the coming weeks!

In this episode we are launching a new type of episode called “At the Movies.” With this format we will be watching a feature film that thematically fits with the content of this podcast. Not every movie will be blatantly religious or secular, but it might hit some marks that are relevant to what we want to do with The Secular Perspective.

We would also like to invite the audience to suggest movies that would make for a good discussion. Feel free to send those suggestions and recommendations through the proper channels.

The Unbelievers (2013)

Director - Gus Holwerda

Writer - Gus Holwerda, Luke Holwerda, Laurence Krauss

Back in February of 2014, Chad purchased the DVD of the Bill Nye vs. Ken Ham debate from the Answers In Genesis organization. As a result, Chad has been regretfully added to the AiG mailing list. So a few weeks ago he received a letter from AiG asking him to donate to the museum itself and it’s new Ark Encounter attraction. This is a reading of that letter.

We start out this depraved discussion by mentioning a few religious based documentaries. Anthony uses the phrase “It’s almost like it’s a cumming cock in motion, and that’s the red jism flying off of the penis.” Then the guys discuss some local news from around Indiana and other parts of the country that was reported in FFRF’s Freethought Today. Chad and Anthony were sort of all over the place in this episode. Many tangents were fleshed out, but sometimes that’s the best stuff. Enjoy!

Anthony reads two poems (feel free to skip this), and Chad shares an STD themed haiku (it’s amazing). The hosts give props to the underappreciated Jaclyn Glenn and other women of YouTube, who have their content ignored by horny dudes. Teaching kids fairytales as though they’re reality affects their ability to think critically ….. huh, who would’ve thought? Ken Ham said things … again.
