Jacob sent word to Esau that he was coming through messengers. They returned and informed Jacob that Esau was riding out to meet him with four hundred of his men. Jacob became greatly afraid and prayed to God for protection and then divided his camp up into waves of blessing for his brother. Afterwards Jacob wrestles with God.

Jacob took his family and undertook a journey to return to his home at God's instruction. Three days later Laban discovers Jacob and his wives and children fled and pursues them for seven days. He overtakes them at the mount of Galaad and is warned in a dream by God not to speak evil to Jacob. They argue and ultimately make an agreement to do each other no harm.

Jacob wishes to return home, but Laban recognizes that he was blessed by Jacob and tells him to name his price and he will pay. Jacob begins serving Laban for a share in the cattle and indicates that his wages will be whatsoever comes forth speckled and spotted or gray. Laban then swindles Jacob by giving most of them to his sons and sending them off a distance of three days and Jacob retaliates by conniving a way to cause the cattle to yield speckled and spotted offspring.

Jacob finds his brother Laban in Charan through Rachel. He is welcomed and asked what his wages will be for his work. Jacob offers to serve Laban seven years for his daughter Rachel. Laban deceives him and first gives him Lea and demands seven additional years for Rachel. Lea begins bearing Jacob children and hopes that her fruitfulness will cause him to love her.

Isaac gives Jacob another blessing before sending him to Mesopotamia to dwell with Laban and marry one of his daughters. On his journey God meets him in a dream and repeats the promise he made to Abraam. Jacob erects a pillar and calls the place the house of God.

Isaac tells Esau to bring him venison so he may bless him before the lord before he dies. Esau leaves and Rebecca calls Jacob and tells him about her plan to steal the blessing of Esau for her son Jacob. She prepares a meal for him and clothes Jacob in Esau's clothes. He then steals the blessing and incurs the rath of his brother Esau. Rebecca then plans to send Jacob to Laban her brother for a wife and her son's safety

A famine ensues, but Isaac is rewarded with a crop that produces one hundred fold. King Abimelech fears how prosperous Isaac has become and bids him leave, but later comes to him seeking an oath of mutual safety.

Rebecca conceives and gives birth to twins: Jacob and Esau. Because they battled in her stomach she inquired of the Lord who explained they would be the father of two nations and the older would serve the younger. Later when the men are grown Esau traded his birthright to Jacob for a bowl of soup.

After the death of Sarah, Abraam commissioned his servant, Eliezer to return to his home land and locate a wife for his son Isaac. The angel of the Lord, goes before Eliezer who arranged a test: whatever woman gives him and his camels water, she is to be Isaac's wife. Rebecca the daughter of Bathuel appeared before he even completed the test in his mind.

Sarah dies and Abraham buys a field and a cave from the Hittites to burry her.
