Five Biblical Tools To Help With Anger During the Holidays
Control Your Tongue When Angry
Anger isn’t wrong, it is just the management of it that is important.
“Let everyone be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger.” James 1:19
Don’t Sin In Your Anger
The Apostle Paul told the Ephesians almost the same thing: “Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger . . .” (Ephesians 4:26).
Use Discretion With Your Anger
It is important to pray about our anger. Solomon wrote “A man’s discretion makes him slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook a transgression.” (Proverbs 19:11)
In other words, balance gives a sense of discretion in life. And, it is the mark of wisdom to be able to overlook perceived transgressions.
Prepare Your Heart
Finally, Paul told the Christians in Ephesus: “Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you” (Ephesians 4:31-32).
Be Proactive In Planning The Gathering
It is important to plan ahead and use wisdom. Solomon writes The prudent sees danger and hides himself, but the simple go on and suffer for it. (Proverbs 22:3)
