Matthew 6-8 We step back into the world on Galilee's north shore as Jesus is mid-monologue in his sermon that changed the course of preaching history. Galilee is in full view and tens of thousands had heard of him. As Matthew lays out the timing, Jesus had just completed a huge healing campaign (forgive the American wording, if you will) and countless souls were touched. People were traveling 2-3 days and more to see the action and have an encounter with God; this Jesus had to be sent by God for he was healing like Elijah/Elisha did. Jesus then paused to give his most famous sermon. It started in Matthew 5 and goes through chapter 7.
Daniel 2:24-49 It is 602-601 B.C. And we learn a stalwart story of a young man whose integrity is unsurpassed in history. Daniel's Dream Interpretation is preceded by some build up that tells us a few things about him. One is that of gracious wisdom. Daniel walks onto a platform of tremendous power from the impression he has made on Babylonian Royalty - and they were impressed because of his integrity.
Isaiah 8-10 There is trouble in the world. The northern Kingdom had split from the southern Kingdom of Judah in the 920's B.C. Isaiah comes on the scene prophesying as of ca. 740 B.C. or slightly earlier as Assyria is planning its initial attack of Israel. The sabres of war are rattling and blood is going to flow like they had never seen. The historical quote "only the dead have seen the end of war" applies here. All the scheming and planning for war is always done by those who are certain they are going to win. Otherwise they would not be going to war. Watch the mess 'unfold and be told' today as every army that is talked about in today's passage is going to be decimated. What a condition! And come to think, what has changed today? Into the Bible we continue to sail!
Job 11-14 Today we read the last of the first cycle of speeches. Eliphaz speaks in chapters 4-5, Job replies in 6-7. Bildad speaks in 8, Job replies in 9-10. Zophar speaks in 11, Job replies in 12-14. People who are suffering don't need to be monologued or have an index finger wagged in their faces. What can we glean from this book of wisdom? Sail with us on the Wisdom Stream.
Acts 3:1-5:15 This is our final day for this week to read from the Modern English Version. We will use a different translation starting tomorrow. Today we are back in the Church Stream in the book of Acts. We left off last week with Peter’s sermon after Pentecost and the believers living together in community. The excitement is picking up in the stream – it’s almost like white-water rafting today! 7streamsmethod.com
Isaiah 4-7 We are actually starting in Isaiah 3:18 so that we can start today's reading in context. We are continuing down the Prophetic Stream in the Modern English Version. 7streamsmethod.com
