The Shame of Abuse ~ Bullying the hidden program that destroys lives

Listen Later

Alison sits down with one of the therapists on her team to discuss the ways in which bullying has impacted her life. This episode takes a look at how bullying can be considered a form of abuse and takes away our power to create the life we want.  Alison and Danielle discuss her journey of re-discovering  her authentic self that she lost by adopting survival skills like staying in friendships to hide the shame, identifying with the aggressor through adopting their "mean girl mentality", and  hiding the truth to alleviate the shame.

In this episode you will learn:

  1. The different levels of hurt that occur through being ostracized, humiliated, hurt physically and emotionally, how we absorb this and then try to hide the hurt.
  2. The importance of  talking about the experiences and the shame that gets attached to ensure it does not get interpreted as the victims fault.
  3. Understanding your external world and how it gets encoded into the mind especially at important developmental ages.
  4. What to do if you feel you are struggling with bullying or the after effects of it.

If you know someone who is struggling with bullying or any of the listed things above including suicide, please reach out to us at 516-221-2123
