Ever been surrounded by people who love you and still felt unknown?
Sometimes we get so good at being the funny guy, the helper, or the man who has it all together that nobody sees the man underneath. And when they tell us they love us, we wonder, “Would you still say that if you knew?”
In this episode, we explore the masks men wear, how shame keeps us hiding, and why that matters in recovery from pornography and unwanted sexual behavior. Through research and Scripture, we look at what happens when we come before God uncovered—and begin receiving His love in the very places we thought made us unlovable.
Jesus didn’t die for the mask. He died for the man underneath.

I spent weeks building an episode on stress. I read the studies, dug into the Scripture, and wrote it over and over. Then I sat down in church and realized I’d been carrying the very thing I was teaching about. So this one isn’t coming from somebody who has it figured out. It’s coming from somebody who got caught. If you’ve ever had a plan to stay clean that looked great in the morning and fell apart by nine o’clock at night, there’s a reason for that. And there’s a way out that has nothing to do with trying harder.

You've stood in front of the refrigerator with the door open, staring at food you don't want, then come back ten minutes later to check again. You're hungry, you just can't say for what.
A lot of men live their whole lives that way. They keep going back to the same door, and it never once has what they're looking for. This episode is about figuring out what you've actually been hungry for all these years, and where to find something that will really feed you.

She's hurting, she's letting you have it, and you're standing there taking every word because you figure you've got it coming. It feels like the right thing to do. It might even feel like love. But what if the thing you think proves you're sorry is the very thing keeping you stuck?
This episode starts with a young monk on his knees on a staircase in Rome, and ends with a question every man in recovery needs to answer honestly: how long are you planning to pay for this?

You've been fine for a while now. Fine at work. Fine at home. Fine when anybody asks. But you can't remember the last time something really got to you. Good or bad.
And late at night, when the house goes quiet, there's a thought you don't say out loud.
This one's for the man who's tired of being fine. It turns out the numb isn't what you think it is. And it doesn't have to stay.

Have you ever looked directly at something and still failed to see it? Research shows that our brains often filter out anything that doesn’t fit what we have been trained to look for.
For men recovering from pornography and unwanted sexual behavior, that helps explain why the eyes can begin scanning a room before a conscious decision is ever made. But what are we really hoping to find?
In this episode, Keith connects the science of inattentional blindness with Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan woman in John 4. Her story reveals how shame drives us into isolation, how false substitutes promise connection, and what can happen when Jesus meets us in the very place we have been hiding.
Recovery is more than learning where not to look. It is learning to recognize the presence of God and the real connection that may have been right in front of us all along.

You've done everything they told you to do. You told the truth. You got honest with somebody. You stopped hiding. And she still isn't where you thought she'd be by now.
There's a question underneath that most men never say out loud, and it isn't a very flattering one. This episode goes after it.
You'll also find out that the thing you were raised to believe would carry you through hard times is not the thing that actually does.

Why would a man begin undermining his recovery just when things are finally going well? In this episode, we explore self-handicapping—the excuses and dangerous conditions we can create before failure ever happens. Through a fascinating psychological experiment and Peter’s walk on the water, we’ll uncover why freedom can feel threatening and where a man must place his weight when shame tells him he cannot really change.

In this episode we look at what the research actually says about unwanted thoughts, why ninety-four percent of people have them, and why "take every thought captive" has almost never been taught the way Paul meant it. Then I'll hand you a front line tool we teach at the ShameFree Life. Four letters. REST. Realize, Explore, Surrender, Thank God.
It won't fix your life. It'll keep you standing long enough for the real work to get done.
Because the question was never whether God is able to carry it. The question you've been afraid to ask is whether He's willing.
He is.

Some men in recovery will tell you they had a terrible week. Walk it back and you find out they were fine. Their wife had the terrible week, and they took the reading and became the reading. This episode is about the difference between a thermometer, which can only report what the room is doing, and a thermostat, which sets it. You don't get to set your wife's temperature. But you do get to decide which man walks into that kitchen, and Paul tells us in Colossians exactly what to put on before we do.

Porn is Not Your Problem
It is your medication.
You're not chasing pleasure. You're…
That's not weakness. It's a man treating a wound the only way he knows how.
That's why trying harder keeps failing. You can't quit the medicine while the wound is still open. So we don't go after the behavior. We go after the pain beneath it—where freedom actually starts.
