"This is a bigger deal than I initially realized" - George
Real estate is one of the biggest limiters on your ability to grow. Richard and George open up a full conversation about real estate situations that may not seem impactful at first, but that become very important when you simply run out of square footage. Yes, you can be successful (like Matt) without owning the real estate, but Richard and George share this new realization so we can take a the ceiling off our future growth.

As we learned last week, this "jumpstart" or "restart" practice is NOT the type that George or Matt would recommend buying. But since Laura got to live in the city she wants, George tells her exactly what *he* would do to make the most of this practice: what team to build, what demo to target, hygiene scheduling... With a practice like this, the long game is the only game.

Outdated practice, updated vision...During his first appearance with Matt on Practice Under Water, our guest Donald's first year of practice looked dismal. He went into practice ownership thinking he'd be happy as a solo. Well, he's back--with a new vision. The question of the day is: will his plans for a new practice fit with his new vision? π¬
George has had two distinct moments when he thought something along the lines of, "Oh my gosh, what did I get myself into?" The first was holding his son for the first time. The second? Walking into his practice as a 25-year-old who hadn't even technically graduated dental school. The clinical problems of his past are not the leadership problems of his future. As we discuss George's growth, Richard officially welcomes George to his new problems; the problems of being largely clinically retired.

"This interview very clearly illustrates the uphill battle you have when you buy the wrong practice", says George. He has rules about what practices would attract him. But each buyer has unique constraints. So our guest "Laura" bought a three-operatory practice for $150k with nothing but one front office staff and 600 active patients (the retiring doc had fired everyone; was checked out; and ready to sell). He was taking home $60k. Is it possible to turn this around? Short answer: YES!

Tyler and Payton's real-doc-voice-changed-fake-name "Dr. Pullet" joins us today. With a clinical background in a Medicaid-heavy practice, she's now searching for her own acquisition. She's found one, and started drafting a purchase agreement, but it has issues... For example, the practice has only 1/3 the new patient flow we want, and we absolutely need to set more transition period expectations.
Matt decided to do two fun things: 1. take over today's episode, and 2. bring our expert Keshavi Patel, DDS onto the show. Keshavi brings her marketing experience from building a successful startup in Texas. Under her guidance, we throw Matt in the hot seat and expose his very own marketing faults. Why? To help you reflect on your own potential marketing pitfalls, and to see Matt's--and your--potential for Growth!

Our guest Albert returns. After learning how average his numbers are, he and Matt now get into prescriptive actions to dismantle his Nice-Guy tendencies, find the best ways to serve his team, and be the boss he himself deserves.

As Tyler embarks on his own leadership development journey, he recognizes a similar rate of growth in George. Together they discuss career advancements, the lenses we look through that shape our perception, and an exciting new title for Tyler at Shared Practices--but most importantly, how their own success ports into the success of our listeners.
Richard talks with Alex Sharp, longtime listener and new Director of Mastermind at Shared Practices. They each volunteer their experience through the lens of the book Traction, by Gino Wickman. Richard explores the evolution of Alex' leadership as he sets us up for growth by helping us think about expectations, communication, and giving up control when you want it most.
