As we continue looking into the Lord's great High Priestly Prayer, we arrive at Jesus' words in verses 17-19 about our sanctification. At the cross, Christ would sanctify Himself so that He could permanently sanctify us. This is positional sanctification. He also commands us to be continually sanctified, which is progressive sanctification. When both are happening in the life of the believer, they will be on mission. As Jesus was preparing to depart, He prayed the most famous prayer in history; His High Priestly prayer. In that prayer, this week we saw how He prayed for the church that He has left in the world. Join us as we consider these things from John 17:14-16.

As we jump back into our main series on John's Gospel, we reenter Jesus' High Priestly prayer, where today we will see Jesus praying for our joy!

What could be so important that it could be considered worthy of Jesus’ redemptive work? Only the thing that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit agreed together was worth the price of his death and resurrection: The redemption of a bride, a people for God’s only begotten son, to the glory of God. The value of the church to God cannot be overstated given the price he was willing to pay.

The promise of the King goes back to the most ancient passages. As we celebrate the Lordship and Kingship of Christ, born in the royal line of David, let us also remember hat His foundations are from old and His Kingdom will never end.

In the great scene, where Abraham is called to sacrifice his son Isaac, we see a picture of Gospel freedom. Like Isaac, God's Son, like Isaac was bound. But, unlike Isaac, God did not allow Jesus to walk away free, because in that event, He was purchasing our freedom.

Ask we saw last week, the hope of Christmas can be found in the first book of Genesis. There we learn that Jesus will not only be born of a virgin, but He will also bring about world-wide dominion and blessings. Join us as we consider how Christ inherits and will bring about the blessings of Abraham (Gen. 12:1-3) by being the true seed of Abraham (Gal. 3:16).

The foundation of Christmas does not begin in the Goaspel of Matthew or of Luke, but in the first chapters of Genesis. Join us as we explore the promise of a Son, who would come through a virgin's womb, prophesied thousands of years before it happened.

In Christ's magnificent prayer, He turns His focus onto the character and nature of the true church, who must not devolve into sinful patterns of disunity, but based on our union with Christ, we grow in unity with one another.

Salvation is not just the work of God in election and the work of Christ in revelation, but also the work of the Spirit in sanctification, to help us love and obey His Word, and to help us rest in His sovereignty. Join us as we explore these truths together.
