In Paul’s day, Roman solders wore hobnailed sandals. Think of modern golf, football, baseball, or soccer shoes that have cleats on the bottom for traction. These sandals allowed the soldier to be sure-footed in battle. So Paul used that image of the sure footed Roman soldier as a picture of the Christian who is properly shod in preparation for spiritual warfare. This Sunday we will look at the shoes that a Christian wears when he's prepared to do battle.
