We’re starting with Kampy’s pick — Twisters (2024). Which, for the record, is a pretty good sequel to an excellent 90s cult classic disaster film. But neither you, dear listener, nor Amanda are getting away that easily because Kampy’s also giving us all an education on tornadoes and the history of storm chasing in America. Which actually, is pretty wild and fascinating. Buckle up folks, and whatever you do, do not try to hide from a tornado under an overpass.

We’re back with part 2 of the “brilliant but cancelled” round of The Show Off with Kampy’s pick — a little show called Imposters. This Bravo network dramedy was unjustly cancelled after just two short seasons, but we’re here today to resurrect it and give it the spotlight it deserves. (How about that 93% on Rotten Tomatoes??)

We’re chatting about two clueless idiots, one dynamite conwoman and her dubious team, a guy with anger issues, the twists and turns you don’t see coming, a subpar yard sale, learning to con on the road, a truly tragic missed opportunity for a running gag, the tech bros definitely not knowing where the bodies are buried, and the wild line that is “do you see my titties?? That’s right bitches cuz I ain’t your momma.” Like, what??

Ever wonder what it would be like if you could read people’s minds by reading their faces, speech patterns, and body language? That’s basically what Lie to Me is about. We start a new round of The Show Off this week called “brilliant but cancelled,” aka “only the good die young.” Amanda’s pick is Lie to Me, a psychological procedural that made it about 2.5 seasons on Fox, starting in 2009 and ending in 2011. 

We’re learning about microexpressions, language tells, how to incorrectly handle a hostage situation, how to correctly (if briefly) impersonate an FBI agent, a very codependent business partnership/friendship/situationship, the world’s stupidest rescue plan, and Chekhov’s literal gun. There may or may not be a pop quiz at the end of the episode, so pay attention!

We’re sticking with the Doctor Who theme for just one more week, but this is a bit of a different episode. We’re expanding a long-standing debate between the two of us on Moffat era Who — Kampy stands for the prosecution, Amanda for the defense.

This week is Kampy’s pick for our double feature Doctor Who Show Off, and of course, it could only be a Ten episode: “The Girl in the Fireplace.” 

It’s another Moffat one-off, and we chat all about this timey wimey adventure with Ten, Rose, Mickey, and Madame du Pompadour herself, Renette. We dig into some frankly wild similarities between this episode and Amanda’s pick from last week, lots of Ten-isms including “wellllll” and spouting space jargon at hyperspeed, Scooby Dooing around a revolving fireplace, subtle character development for Ten, Chekhov’s horse (who’s name is Arthur), super fun practical sets, ridiculously large space guns, of course a few great dialogue drops, the satisfaction of not knowing the answer, and what’s Jack Sparrow got to do with anything.
