  • Who won?; Canada stops ammo sales to Israel; Ukrainians protest at TIFF; Andy Stinton

Peter reviews the Presidential debate and discusses why he believes it was not anyone’s shining moment. Most of it looked like Harris baiting Trump and Trump taking it every time…will it change anything? Probably not.

Canada has dropped 30 contracts to supply Israel with ammunition and one that ships from a Quebec manufacturer via the United States. The Centre for Israeli and Jewish Affairs fights back…forget it…Melanie doesn’t like Israel and the Liberals see more votes outside than inside the Jewish community.

Ukrainian Canadians are a little pissed off. A documentary called Russians at War was partially funded with public money. The Ukrainian community demonstrated its displeasure by demonstrating at the Toronto International Film Festival. And they got a boost from Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland.

And “the small businessman” Andy Stinton on the debate plus which way to crease your pants these days!

  • US Presidential Debate & Why Swing States Matter; ISIS Guy; NDP in Quebec Byelection

Peter reviews what the Trump/Harris debate may mean, especially since the two candidates have never met and even more especially since there may be no more debates.

Later in the program, we look at why swing states matter and how they basically determine election outcomes because the Electoral College is the key.

What’s going on in Montreal where a byelection takes place next week and the NDP candidate has sent around a flyer to voters that pictures himself in front of a Palestinian flag….what’s wrong with the red maple leaf M. Sauve?

And the Conservatives want to know how Muhammed Khan, an ISIS member, got into Canada and readied himself for entry into the United States where he intended to slaughter Jews in Brooklyn New York.

  • Peter’s View: Carney at Caucus; Carbon Tax Ads; Bloc + Libs=Majority; Jewish Patrol

Peter takes editorial positions on a variety of subjects that have evolved over the weekend. Former Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney is with the Liberal Caucus in Nanaimo talking finance and the economy. Carney’s name has come up in the past as a potential Trudeau successor.

The feds are adding insult to injury by planning to launch an ad campaign in favour of what they call the carbon rebate program (the rest of us call it what it is – a tax!)

Strange Bedfellows…a sovereigntist party entirely from Quebec called the Bloc Quebecois holds the Balance of Power in the Parliament of Canada…did you ever think???? Nah…

And similarly outfitted men known as Magen Herut Canada are visible on the University of Toronto campus. They are a patrol group meant to watch over Jewish students in the midst of renewed pro-Palestinian demonstrators and concerned parents…

  • Melissa Lantsman MP; University $$ Woes; Liberals Lose Campaign Director; COVID19

Peter has a chat with Melissa Lantsman, MP for Thornhill and also Deputy-Leader of the Conservative Party. We discuss the Singh method for disconnecting from Prime Minister Trudeau, Conservative readiness, and what we can all expect going forward.

Canadian universities are feeling a lot of financial pressure. The feds reduced the number of study permits for international students, hoping to curtail the influx by 35%. It went to 45%. That doesn’t sound bad until you realize that the foreign students help keep our schools alive because they pay significant multiples of what Canadian students do and aid our economy in other ways.

The Liberal Party of Canada has lost its’ Campaign Director and no, not anything to do with events precipitated by the NDP earlier this week. But individual Liberal MPs are speaking out and saying this is going to mean needed change and new focus. Wow! You weren’t saying that publicly last week.

COVID is up in Canada but not to dangerous levels. 54 deaths in the last week of August but that’s still very low when compared to the darker days of 3 years ago.

  • Election soon…meh…; Bank rate future; US Debate; Ukraine War; Stephen LeDrew

Peter talks math (but don’t ask him how that went in school!). The math is House of Commons simple arithmetic and what it will take to knock the Trudeau Liberals out in a confidence vote. May not be as easy as Jagmeet and Pierre doing a group hug with Bloc Quebecois Leader Yves-Francois Blanchet.

What does the Bank of Canada’s ¼% drop mean for you?? Maybe nothing much yet but you might be betting on future reductions by negotiating variable rate loans. We’ll do some speculating.

They finally agreed to muted microphone format in the American Presidential Debate on Tuesday. That means each candidate will be muted while the opponent is responding to questions. More on the US election too.

Peter is worried about the current direction of the Ukraine War.

And Stephen LeDrew joins Peter to discuss current issues.

  • Canada Election not far off; Air Canada strike likely; Tone Deaf Freeland and Andy Stinton!

Peter discusses the breakup of the NDP/Liberal voting agreement…it happened today so a vote of non-confidence will likely happen asap. But here’s the twist. Jagmeet Singh made the announcement and it came as a surprise. He believes he’s holding the cards with an incredibly weakened Justin Trudeau incapable of winning. Singh says he’s the guy to elect as Prime Minister to fend off “that wicked Pierre Poilievre”.  And Air Canada strike is likely according to experts…and the federal government is probably going to let it happen and run its course. The date is September 17th.

Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland is celebrating free lunches for 400-thousand Canadian kids. Peter asks what they did pre-budget and whether they’d actually need the lunches if the Trudeau Government was not restricting their parents ability to earn a living. Andy Stinton and Peter ask the question “have you lost friends over a Donald Trump discussion?”

  • Mike Duffy - Politics; Peter - Bank of Canada Rate, Phones/Schools; Israel as Conqueror

Mike Duffy, long time reporter on the Canadian political scene joins Peter for a chat about where we stand with an election no more than a year away and weighs in on the USA race.

Peter comments on the upcoming change to the Bank of Canada rate. That’s the one home mortgagees are hoping will drop. Focus is also brought to the first day of school in Ontario where a cellphone ban is now in effect…how to enforce and how kids behave; and we look at Israel as a conqueror, a role it has never assumed but should according to Harvard Islamic scholar Daniel Pipes.

  • Poilievre Writes a Letter; Canada Post Failing; Air Canada Strike Looms

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is pushing NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh hard on why he continues to support the governing Liberal Minority of Justin Trudeau. In often tough language, Poilievre said (quote) “No one voted for you to keep Trudeau in power. You do not have a mandate to drag out his government another year.” That aside, the Conservative Leader points an accusing finger at the socialists for being sellouts and throws inflation in Singh’s face saying that high grocery prices, the crime rate, and housing shortages have all grown dramatically since the implementation of the support pact.

Peter will tell you about a huge company you’d never guess was now becoming unsustainable and he looks at what people think and what the government is doing about immigration targets.

All of that and a word or two on Vice-President Kamala Harris’ first interview last evening on CNN plus a newly opening door for alcohol whenever you want it. Hint: not the LCBO.

  • New Leger Poll 43% CPC, 25% Lib; Zuckerberg’s Other Face; Lib vs. Lib

Journalist and author Sue Ann Levy joins Peter to talk politics in today’s show.

Politics are coming back into focus as we head into the Labour Day weekend and a soon-to-return Parliament in Ottawa. Polling continues to indicate decimation for the Trudeau Liberals and a majority government for Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives. However, it’s still early days for prediction a year out.

If Poilievre had his ways, the NDP would dissolve its agreement with Justin Trudeau for supporting his minority government. Poilievre wrote to the Conservative leader urging him to break the deal so that a “carbon tax election” can come sooner versus later. He released the letter to media so maybe he’s not so optimistic.

The Liberals have internal squabbles to deal with in a Montreal byelection set for October. 52 Liberals seconded to work on their candidate’s campaign have written to the Prime Minister saying they’ll pull out if he doesn’t adjust the way he leans more towards the Muslim Community as opposed to the Jewish community. Well, that would make two groups that don’t like you Justin.

  • Peter's Views: $1 airfares; 100% tariff Chinese TVs; Big consumer debt; USA Debate

Peter discusses what Canadians are talking about today...an American Presidential debate where the two sides are trying to reach agreement on whether or not an opponent's microphone should be muted while a candidate is responding to a question. That's how it was done when Trump and Biden were debating...guess it didn't turn out too well for Biden.

The Chinese make a very cheap electric vehicle. Prime Minister Trudeau doesn't want them in Canada undercutting our manufacturers and workers...so he matched the Americans and slapped a 100% tariff on the Chinese cars. Peter figures EVs are like fax machines were...25 years and we have other technology.

Consumer debt is spiking to the highest levels in 17 years. Blame COVID. And the Bank of Canada. And mortgages that went at <2% in 2020 and are up for renewal at 5%+.

And Flair Airlines becomes the first airline to offer one-way tickets at $1. Don't get excited until you see what it costs to go back!
