Unlock the hidden truths behind the dualistic nature of Hydrogen Sulfide as our expert guests, Dr. Nirala Jacobi and Dr. Kathleen Janel joins us in our latest episode "High Dose Sulfur for IBS". This episode is a deep dive into the dichotomy that exists within our gut, exploring how this compound can simultaneously pose as a health aid and a health threat. Come join us as we learn about its role in various illnesses like Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and understand how an imbalance of this compound leads to these disorders.
We will also shed light on how sulfur, commonly seen as a villain in the narrative of gut disorders, can be used as a superhero in the treatment of these conditions. Dr. Kathleen Janel, who has been a pioneer in this revolutionizing treatment approach, will share her insights and personal success stories utilizing high doses of sulfur for more than two decades. Don't miss this intriguing transformational health journey as we challenge the conventional belief systems about sulfur and its role in gut health.
In this episode of The SIBO Doctor Podcast, Dr. Nirala Jacobi discusses:
- The Gut Microbiome's Role. The gut microbiome's influence on health and disease is significant, with modern lifestyles negatively impacting its state.
- Microbiome Diversity. A diverse microbiome, akin to a healthy ecosystem, is crucial for preventing overgrowth of harmful bacteria and maintaining overall health.
- Metabolites. Bacterial genes in the microbiome produce metabolites that can indicate health status and influence mood and energy levels.
Restore the Microbiome - New online course: Dr Jacobi's strategies to rewild the microbiome, emphasizing the importance of diversity and the production of beneficial metabolites.

Dr. Nirala Jacobi interviews Dr. Mark Davis about helminth therapy and fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) in the treatment of various conditions. Helminth therapy involves using tiny worm-like organisms called helminths as medicine for humans. Dr. Davis explains that there are four helminths that have been found to be safe and beneficial for humans.
These helminths can be used to treat conditions such as multiple sclerosis, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, and autism spectrum disorder. FMT, on the other hand, involves transplanting fecal microbiota from a healthy donor into the gut of a patient. FMT has been found to be effective in treating conditions such as Clostridium difficile (C. diff) colitis and hepatic encephalopathy.
Dr. Davis also discusses his new ventures in Panama, where he plans to offer helminth therapy and FMT in a hospital setting. He also mentions his work on vaginal microbiota transplantation for women's health conditions.
Dr Mark Davis, ND is a 2011 graduate of NUNM, and a fellow of the American College of Naturopathic Gastroenterology. He’s on the board of directors of the Gastroenterology Association of Naturopathic Physicians, and the editorial board of the Natural Medicine Journal. Dr. Davis teaches the naturopathic gastroenterology course at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine, and he has focused on patients with IBD since 2016.
Today, we'll unpack some of the mechanisms that drive chronic pain with a special focus on how dietary factors, microbiome imbalances and the nervous system play a role in the development of pain. My guest today is Ananda Mahony, a naturopath with a special interest in helping people struggling with arthritis to endometriosis, to digestive pain, or any condition where pain is a predominant feature. She has developed programs for groups and individuals to help resolve chronic pain and get back into life. Ananda has completed a master's degree in pain management.
Our conversation today deep dives into the toxic effects of glyphosate on our gut microbiome, our detoxification systems and energy production system and much more. It was prompted by my ongoing search for answers for my sulfur sensitive patients and hydrogen sulfide SIBO dysbiosis. Today I'm speaking with researcher and author Dr. Stephanie Seneff.
Dr. Seneff is a senior research scientist at MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She has a BS degree from MIT in biology and MSEE and PhD degrees from MIT in electrical engineering and computer science. Her recent interests are focused on the role of toxic chemicals and micronutrient deficiencies in health and disease with a special emphasis on the pervasive herbicide, glyphosate and the mineral sulfur. So, hang on. It's a jam-packed podcast episode which I think most practitioners will enjoy.
