18 years later, Hibs are once again winners of the SWPL! As a tense title race finally comes to a close, we take a minute to wrap up and reflect on the drama of the last few weeks. Melissa Andreatta has announced her first SWNT squad, and Megan heads to Celtic Park to catch up with Elena Sadiku. 

We are also one whole years old! And to celebrate, we take Sideline snacks to a whole new level as we catch up with Erin Cuthbert’s private chef, the fantastic Jodie Smith, to talk meal planning, recovery treats, and what snacks she’d like to introduce to stadiums.

The organisation works all year round across the UK to challenge discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression at all levels of football. 

In this episode we catch up with Football v Homophobia Scotland’s organisers to reflect on the importance of challenging discrimination in football and to find out a bit more about the upcoming Football v Homophobia awards in Glasgow. We also chat to Caitlin from Proud Jags - Partick Thistle’s LGBTQI+ supporters group, to discuss the importance of carving out safe spaces in the stands for everyone to enjoy the beautiful game.

Alongside our interviews, we take a moment to discuss the title race in the SWPL as the season split has now been announced, and what that could mean for teams across the board!

This month’s episode is brought to you in partnership with our friends at Football v Homophobia as part of their ongoing month of action campaign. The organisation works all year round across the UK to challenge discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression at all levels of football. February is their month of action whereby a whole host of events take place across the UK, and to help raise awareness we are bringing you two special episodes this month to celebrate the importance of inclusivity and to highlight the vital work the organisation do too.

We are delighted to kick off the first of these two episodes with Rangers and Netherlands midfielder, Tessel Middag. Tessel is a footballer, activist, historian, and also the vice chair of the PFA. She won the Val McDermid Award for the Spirit of SWF at the most recent Scottish Women’s Football Awards for her research into the history of Scottish women’s football, and she was also one of the organisers that brought forward a petition signed by over 100 professional women’s players from around the world calling on FIFA to drop their partnership with Saudi Arabian oil company ARAMCO. 

On top of all of this we bring you all the usual updates from the SWPL, Scottish Cup, Sky Sports Cup, the notorious January transfer window, and finally the upcoming SWNT fixtures too! Phew!

We are thrilled this month to welcome Netherlands international and Glasgow City centre back Samantha Van Diemen to the Sideline. We sit down with her to discuss her career through youth clubs, to signing for Ajax, making her senior debut for the Netherlands against Japan, and her move to Glasgow City.
