'Why Have You Forsaken Me?'
Hello Everyone. Sidney St. James. Today I search for answers on my show like I have done in many other scenarios. Again, I am not an ordained minister, and don't profess to me. But I'm a caring and believing man who asks numerous questions. Many years ago, I wrote my first novel, ADVERSITY. I asked so many questions that I became a Professional Genealogist. Then, I wrote the ROSE OF BRAYS BAYOU and found how women struggled with their FAITH when escaping the wrath of Santa Anna after the fall of the Alamo. Then, I still struggle with forgiveness when writing from the memoirs of the first ordained woman of the Presbytery in FAITH - SEVENTY TIME SEVEN. I have written two novels, GENESIS AND HALLELUJAH, and found so many mysteries or places in the Old Testament and New Testament that made me ask questions! Finally, I wrote SEEING THE POWER OF GOD, where I asked many of those questions again through my character Billy Bob Thornton. That brings me to today with my visiting the Old and New Testament. Today I quote to begin my show from Psalm 22: Verses 1 thru 8 of the Old Testament.
"My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning? O my God, I cry by day, but you do not answer, and by night, I find no rest. Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel. In you our fathers trusted; they trusted, and you delivered them. To you, they cried and were rescued; in you, they trusted and were not put to shame. But I am a worm, not a man, scorned by mankind and despised by the people. All who see me mock me; they make mouths at me; they wag their heads; "He trusts in the LORD; let him deliver him; let him rescue him, for he delights in him!"
From the New Testament, Matthew 27: Verses 46-51 - "And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" Some of the bystanders, overhearing it, said, "This man is calling his God." So one of them ran and took a sponge, filled it with some sour wine, placed it on a reed, and handed it to him to drink. But the others said, "Wait, let's see whether his God will arrive in time to save him." And Jesus cried out once more with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit. And behold, the temple curtain was torn in two, from the very top to the bottom. The earth rumbled and shook, and the rocks were split."
Also, from the New Testament from Mark 15: Verses 33-37 - "When the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. And at the ninth hour, Jesus cried loudly, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" And some bystanders hearing it said, "Behold, he is calling his God to save him." And someone ran and filled up a sponge with sour wine, placed it on a reed, and gave it to the man to drink, saying, "Wait, let us see whether his God will come to take him down." And Jesus uttered a loud cry… and took his last breath."
So, let me ask you this. Why did Jesus Christ feel forsaken on the CROSS? Well, that's my story for today.
