Holmes cannot locate the missing ship and sinks into a depression as he tries to sort out the clues. Detective Athelny Jones visits Baker Street and admits to Watson that his theory has fallen flat on its face and that he has released Sholto. A stranger shows up at Baker Street claiming he has found the two men responsible for stealing the treasure.
