The first 13 verses of the last chapter of the book of Joshua show us a very interesting picture of God. Here, God reminds the Israelites where they are coming from. There was always the assumption that since they came from Abraham, there was an inherent ‘goodness’ or ‘suitability’ in them that God chose them. God showed them the folly of this thinking by reminding them that Abraham came from pagan roots. He went on to show His graciousness to them, but most importantly, in all that was said, He never once mentioned their sin.
