On Friday 27th of July, the SIPTU Sligo, Leitrim and Roscommon District Council marked the centenary of women’s suffrage at the 2nd Annual Markievicz/Partridge seminar in Lissadell House, County Sligo.
Among the speakers at the weekend-long Summer school was Tish Gibbons, Head of SIPTU College, Minister for State at the Department of Education Mary Mitchell O Connor TD and the owner of Lissadell House, Constance Cassidy.
In this podcast we hear the address given by Moira Leydon, Assistant General Secretary of the ASTI entitled "Bread and Roses" which discusses the last 100 years of women in the trade union movement.
Moira makes the point that while the trade union movement has been at the forefront of much positive, progressive change, we still have many battles left to win!
Presented by SIPTU learning Coordinator Eira Gallagher.
