The Sixth Degree Podcast

On this episode we interview our first non-KC based guest: Chris Staples, a musician, singer, songwriter, and recording artist from Seattle, WA. Chris has been making music for over 20 years, first in the bands Twothirtyeight (Tooth & Nail Records) and Discover America, and more recently as a solo artist. He's been featured on NPR's All Songs Considered and was recently signed to Barsuk Records. We talk with Chris about his new record, creating & releasing his own music, the impact of Spotify on his music, and the common history that he and Ryan share. Thanks for listening!

After months of intense negotiation, we finally landed an interview with self-proclaimed "KCelebrity" and man-about-town, Cole Blaise. We talk with him about his new marriage, his day job at KCPT as a multimedia producer, his weekend job at 90.9 The Bridge as a host, and the crucial role he had to play during the Royals' last few World Series runs. Hope you enjoy!

It's been a busy last half of the summer for us dorky dads, so let's go ahead and contribute the dearth of new episodes to that, why don't we? It definitely wasn't procrastination, or being tired, or lack of interest, or guests cancelling on us. Though, all of those factors play into this most recent episode! In the absence of a guest, Ryan & Adam just sit down and chew the fat about what they do at their 9-5's, a little pop culture, and some cool things that our friends did for each other recently.

We hope this tides you over until we get a fresh, new guest in for an interview. Which will be soon...we promise.

In the meantime, we want your suggestions! Email us or drop us a line on Twitter or our Facebook page (links below). Who should we have on the pod? We have some ideas for our next few but we want to hear your thoughts!

Donovan White is a good friend, a local guitar teacher/professor, an ice cream connoisseur* and a touring guitarist with the 90's/00's/current(!) rock band Vertical Horizon. He's also hilarious. Check it out!

This week on The Sixth Degree, we interview Eric Hurst, a KC-based vlogger/Youtube maven and tech consultant extraordinaire.  We ask him what it's like to walk around with a camera pointed at his face all the time, how he met Ryan (and why he thought he might have to beat him up), and what his thoughts are on KC's recent tech boom. We also discover a deep and mysterious connection between Adam and Eric's pasts.

Also, be sure to check out his coinciding vlog about recording the podcast with us at http://vlog.erichurst.com!

This week on the podcast, we go deep with our pal Diego Chi, a musician, artist and co-founder of the Kansas City-based rock band Making Movies. We talk about what it's like to be a locally successful band trying to break through to a wider audience, the current music industry landscape, and what Making Movies is doing to make an impact on music education here in KC. On an even deeper level, we talk about what cars our kids will be driving in the future, Diego's dance moves, swap some fond memories of watching Diego destroy the digital world of video games and Ryan shares a rather tragic July 4th story.

Also, by popular demand: Diego teaches two out-of-touch dads how to use Snapchat. Don't miss it!

Adam & Ryan sit down with Jake Randall, their friend & owner of the new upstart doughnut shop/bar/restaurant, Doughnut Lounge, which opened late last year in the Westport district of Kansas City.
