Since slavery, the question of our status and our Blackness has always been up for discussion; no matter where we are in the African Diaspora. In Brazil, for instance, more than 134 classifications of race or color came up in a census one year. Because of slavery and all that has come with it, including the intermixing of various ethnic groups, many people of African descent struggle with their identity and understanding what it means to be Black.
