"I have had eight or nine miscarriages. For three years, my body has been a prisoner of trying to get pregnant — I’ve either been about to go into an IVF cycle, in the middle of an IVF cycle, or coming out of an IVF cycle...Everyone said, 'You’re a career woman, you’ve prioritized your career, you waited too long and now you’re just too old to have a kid—and that’s on you for wanting a career.' The reality is I actually have adenomyosis. The gag is I had it in my early 20s."
-Gabrielle Union, We're Going to Need More Wine
Gabrielle Union is a celebrity, but she is part of a community of millions of women who either struggle with fertility, are not ready to have children, choose not to conceive at all or anymore. These women are tired of having to either relive painful experiences or have to constantly dispel the false narrative that a woman is not a woman unless she is a mother when asked, "So, when you gonna have a[nother] baby."
Women are finally sharing their stories and answering the infamous question back with, "Stay Out My Uterus!"
In this conversation, we are joined by Denissa Roddy and Raydiance Swanston.

Since slavery, the question of our status and our Blackness has always been up for discussion; no matter where we are in the African Diaspora.
In Brazil, for instance, more than 134 classifications of race or color came up in a census one year. Because of slavery and all that has come with it, including the intermixing of various ethnic groups, many people of African descent struggle with their identity and understanding what it means to be Black.
Listen as we discuss “what it means to be Black” with Raydiance Swanston, Denissa Roddy and Erin Giddens; as well as the discord within the Black community about it.

Continuing our conversation from last week, we discuss the trauma around the lack of will some folks have in simply seeking understanding and how it's counterproductive to Black Liberation.
Mojo Disco also shares with us what ways she thinks Black cis women can better cultivate a sisterhood with Black trans women and what Black Liberation looks like to her.

After making her speech, Ain't I A Woman?, I don't think ancestor Sojourner Truth would think that 167 years later we would still be trying to figure out what womanhood is or who would worthy enough to be one...
For Black women, it has always been a question answered by others. But as many Black millennials come of age in a time where nearly nothing is as it was for the generations before us, the concept of womanhood is also being redefined; especially in the middle of the LGBTQIA Movement.
167 years later, Black-cis and trans women stand in the same place asking, "Aint' I A Woman?" Kicking off Season 2, Danielle Young chats with Mojo Disco about how she came to defining womanhood as a Black trans woman and how Black cis and trans women can better cultivate sisterhood.

We define Love as "the will to extend ones self for the purpose of nurturing ones own or another's spiritual growth." Sometime nurturing another's spiritual growth looks like compromise. Compromise is reciprocated effort. Both parties must be willing to come to solution or arrangement that benefits the relationship.
In this episode, we look at compromise; as well as, how some people misconstrue sacrifice for compromise. Although there is nothing inherently wrong with sacrificing, understanding the difference between it and compromise is helpful in order to take accountability and have more clarity around whether Love is present.
Listen to the host, Danielle Young, joined by Sierra Craig and Raydiance Swanston investigate two of the 8 Pillars of Sisterhood: Compromise and Contribution.

In our last episode, where we discussed the importance of truth and story-telling, we discovered that part of telling our stories is feeling safe to do so; which Safety happens to be one of the pillars in our 8 Pillars of Sisterhood.
In this episode, inspired by bell hooks' chapter Tongues of Fire in her book Sisters of the Yam, we talk about how we can use truth-telling and story-telling to either liberate and be life-affirming or to give harsh critiques and judgments. We also discuss how our next three pillars, Accountability, Trust and Safety, inform how we do sisterhood. At what point does "telling it like it is" becomes too much? Are you using your role as the "honest friend" to liberate or to harm? Find out in this episode.

Through storytelling we're able to not only connect with others, but connect with ourselves; as we discover that those we interact with are often times our mirrors. Listening to anothers' story helps us appreciate or finally acknowledge things in ourselves we once ignored. Speaking our truth and telling our story is a way to reclaim our power.
Yet, “Telling the truth about one’s life is not simply about naming the “bad” things, exposing horrors. It is also about being able to speak openly about feelings, about a variety of experiences.”
In this episode, the host, Danielle Young, is joined by Karlene Graham and Sierra Craig as they discuss what storytelling and truth telling has done for them and what needs to be present in order to story-tell.
