Through storytelling we're able to not only connect with others, but connect with ourselves; as we discover that those we interact with are often times our mirrors. Listening to anothers' story helps us appreciate or finally acknowledge things in ourselves we once ignored. Speaking our truth and telling our story is a way to reclaim our power.

Yet, “Telling the truth about one’s life is not simply about naming the “bad” things, exposing horrors. It is also about being able to speak openly about feelings, about a variety of experiences.”

The host, Danielle Young, goes on to share how storytelling and truth-telling has benefited her and the necessity for not just women, but the Black community to embrace storytelling & truth-telling.

Whether it is the work of thought leaders and activists or the intentional work done by individuals living their best lives, it feels good to see Black folk doing everything they can to shatter stereotypes that have long been ingrained in our psyches. However, many of them still loom over our heads and we often times still have to navigate how those stereotypes impact our lives knowingly or unknowingly.

One of the biggest stereotypes Black women are still tackling, among Black women empowerment that has been ever present the last few years, is the notion that Black women do not get along. Although people like women on this episode are breaking down this notion through their work, by being a demonstration and by sharing their stories of the positive ways they have been impacted by sisterhood, you will also hear some of their experiences and points made that leave room to believe there might be some truth to this stereotype.
