   For millions of Americans, the availability of public transportation is the determining factor in their ability to access jobs and any care they require. For a lot of those people, they either live outside the range of public transit or the places they need to go to are outside of public transit zones, forcing them to miss those opportunities. Forcing them to have to walk for miles to get where they need to be.

   Life is not always predictable. Everyday people unexpectedly get sick, lose their job, or have their car break down on them. Most people do not expect those things to happen. Cars 4 Heroes is here to help people through those times by giving them transportation so that they can get back on their feet and turn their lives around. Our founder, Terry Franz, will tell people, “Our program is not called fix my life, we are just here to give them a tool to help them fix their lives.”

 Every year, we give hundreds of cars to families and people in need. For some, it is a wheelchair van that allows them to take their wheelchair bound family member out for the first time in years and for others it is just a simple car that can get them to work and doctors’ appointments.

   There are other charities that sound very similar to ours, but we are different in one major way. The cars we give away are donated. We do not take in donated cars, sell them and then buy other cars to give away.  Now, not every car we get is road worthy or need major repairs and those that are not are sold with the proceeds going towards fixing other cars and supporting events.

The way I started doing comedy is not a very cool, rock and roll story,” Taylor Tomlinson says. At only 25, Tomlinson has already been doing stand-up comedy for almost a decade. From church basements to The Tonight Show to international tours, Tomlinson has come a long way and is ready for the next step. 

Tomlinson has performed on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Conan, MTV’s Safe Word, Comedy Central's Adam Devine's House Party, and Netflix’s The Comedy Lineup. In 2015, she was a top ten finalist on Season 9 of NBC's Last Comic Standing. She was named one of the Top 10 Comics to Watch at the prestigious Just for Laughs Festival by Variety Magazine. She also appears on the show What Just Happened??! with Fred Savage. 

When she was 16, her father wanted to take a stand-up comedy class with her to bond before she went to college. Because Tomlinson grew up in a religious household, that comedy class was taught by a Christian comedian who would perform at churches. Tomlinson showed potential in the class and her teacher had her open for him at shows for the next two years. By performing in churches and on other religious shows, Tomlinson successfully avoided a common issue for teenage comedians — not being old enough to enter the 21+ comedy clubs. “I wasn't going to get a fake ID; I was a good kid,” she says. 

As Tomlinson got older, she felt herself outgrowing church-based comedy. “If you're going to work in churches, you have to stay very clean and really careful for the rest of your career.” She continues, “Otherwise, you know, a swear word could end it for you. I wanted to talk about things in my comedy that would be too dark for church.” While Tomlinson slowly phased out doing shows for church audiences, she still is happy for the experience. Learning how to write clean comedy and getting stage time early in her career helped the fledgling comedian prepare for bigger things. 

At 17, Tomlinson went to college but didn’t have much time to perform. Not being able to perform made her realize how important comedy was to her. She recalls, “Another comic said to me ‘you're good and you're not going up [on stage] enough. If you went up as much as possible, you would get even better, even faster. Quite frankly, if you, if you don't make it as a comedian, it's not just anybody's fault but your own.’” After receiving that advice, she made the time to perform. At 20, Tomlinson was being booked to perform at colleges and was getting paid enough that she decided to quit her day job and quit school to focus on performing. While on the road performing at colleges, she was selected to be on Last Comic Standing. 

Parade Founder Mickey Finn tells the story of how Snake Saturday came to life in 1983. The concept started as a promotion for Rodeway Inn, with four floats, a Grand Marshal and co-founder, Bill Grigsby. It was cold outside, only about ten degrees. The parade took place in the motel parking lot, allowing people to view from their hotel rooms and the coffee shop.

And what would a parade be without a winner of Best of Parade? A young lady on the back of a Harley Davidson motorcycle wearing a bright green bikini took home the honor. After the parade, the North Kansas City mayor turned to Mickey Finn and said, “We might as well take it to the street next year.” And as they say, “the rest is history”. The parade has celebrated every year since, regardless of weather conditions and always on the Saturday before St. Patrick’s Day.

As the Snake Saturday Parade & Festival became the largest family fun Irish celebration in the area, it also generated an enormous amount of exposure and charitable donations benefiting local non-profit organizations. The process started after non-profit businesses were invited to build floats and compete for prize money. The response was overwhelming and community involvement soared to new heights. Snake Saturday Parade & Festival awards cash prizes to from 50 –100 local charities, totaling 1.6 million dollars to date.

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Dave Mason’s career spans over half a century and encompasses producing, performing and song writing. Fans and critics alike hail Dave as one of the most talented songwriters and guitarists in the world - which is why he is still performing over 100 shows a year to sold-out crowds.  

Mason has been playing guitar most of his life. By 15, Dave had founded two bands: The Deep Feeling and The Hellions. At 18, the Worcester, England native teamed up with Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi and Chris Wood to form the legendary band Traffic. At 19, Mason penned the song "Feelin' Alright". The rock anthem, first recorded by Traffic and then covered by dozens of other artists (including Joe Cocker), cemented both Dave’s and Traffic’s legacy and had a profound influence over rock music that continues today.

Mason left Traffic in 1969 to pursue a solo career in the US.  Dave has penned over 100 songs, has 3 gold albums: Alone Together, Dave Mason and Mariposa De Oro and a platinum album Let it Flow, which contained the top-ten single "We Just Disagree".

In addition to cranking out hits, Dave has performed on or contributed to a number of famous albums, including: The Rolling Stones' Beggars Banquet, George Harrison's All Things Must Pass, Paul McCartney and Wings Venus and Mars and Jimi Hendrix's Electric Ladyland. Mason is featured playing acoustic guitar in “All Along the Watchtower” on Electric Ladyland, a favorite in Dave's live shows!
