Chief Rick Scott is the Chief of Police for the San Luis Obispo Police Department. Chief Scott moved from Texas to assume the role of Chief in 2021 and is a committed member of SLO, striving to make San Luis Obispo a safe and welcoming place for all.
As a career police leader, Chief Rick Scott has over 24 years of experience in police operations and leadership and serves as the Chief of Police for the San Luis Obispo Police Department in California. Chief Scott has a wide breadth of experience in managing all aspects related to modern and progressive policing to include community engagement, patrol, criminal investigations, narcotics, crisis negotiations, recruiting, professional standards and accreditation. Chief Scott is a graduate of the 46th session of the Senior Management Institute for Police (PERF), as well as an alumni of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Leadership in Police Organizations program. He is also a graduate of the 248th session of the FBI National Academy and holds a Master’s Degree in Criminology/Criminal Justice from the University of Texas at Arlington. Chief Scott is a member of the IACP Technology Committee and serves on the executive board for the IACP Law Enforcement Technology Section. Chief Scott has throughout his career worked to improve law enforcement by advancing data sharing, police technology, and community/police collaborations to address future law enforcement challenges.
