In this episode, I talk about the 2023 North American Tree Climbing Championship held in Garfield Park located in Washington D.C. This episode is a follow up to the Pre NATCC episode as promised.

Jeff's arch nemesis in the prelims. Here he dives into the rule book and score sheet as well as shares some experiences from previous events as well as hard lessons learned. A bit thing that was missed in sharing was that he now uses multiple colored thowlines to alleviate mixing up throwlines. It's all about growth and trying to be a little bit better today than we were yesterday.

Sorry for the audio cut out on Episode 5! This is the last 27 minutes to wrap up the conversation around Aerial Rescue Preliminary Event and a dive into what the Aerial Rescue Prelim looks like with the North American Open Masters (NAOM) style.

The brekdown of events starts with Aerial Rescue. This event is jam packed with a lot of nuance and things to consider/look out for. This episode likely only scratches the surface of it, but Jeff dives into the ISA rule book and score sheet to breakdown what it looks like from his perspective.

The latter part of the episode talks about the sequestered style rescue event that was inspired by the North American Open Masters (NAOM). Covering what it is, how it happens, and why that evolution of the event has been so well received and impactul. In many ways, understanding the ISA style rescue helps with a level of decision making that applies to the NAOM style, but it has evolved into a much bigger thing now.

If you've had questions about what the scoresheet and rule book are after and trying to explain, this is about a good a start to answering (or maybe creating more) of those questions.

Have you ever been to a party, hang out, forced social interaction and found yourself with nothing to talk about so you ask the clutch question..."So what do you do?" For us tree climbers, what that tends to spark is a conversation that usually lasts the rest of the evening as folks want to hear more and more about what we do for our work as most folks aren't as into their day jobs as we are.

Then, you add in that tree climbing comps are a thing and you proceed to blow their minds. They can't quite wrap their heads around it though, despite your best efforts. Well, this episode is born out of that conversation.

If you are thinking about competitng for the first time, whether you've been in the game for a while or not, this will be a good run through of what a comp is. If you want to pawn off that conversation to someone with a link to a rando dude chatting about it for over an hour...this is also your podcast. If you are said person who was pawned off on a random dude...I tried to simpllify it as much as possible, so please enjoy what will likely sound like Greek for the next hour.

This episode we experience some better audio...man that was great audio, but Jeff chats through some musings on how he doesn't see much of a difference when it comes to work and compeition. They help to prepare a climber for each and if we're intentional, we may just find some time to train and apply some efficiencies to both.

The inaugural episode to kick off the podcast! This whole thing is built out of a passion for climbing and compeition. I play with some of the format, try to find my podcast voice (don't beat me up too bad, everything has to start somewhere), and dive into why I felt compelled to start this podcast.
