The ex husband with a past in porn will forever have a label, no matter how much time or how many good deeds come to pass. Joe and Shannon talk about how people that go through alternative experiences process them differently, and how the United States believes in punishment in perpetuity and prays for redemption never truly granted.
Is rap appropriate for kids? Does grunge make you depressed? Does metal provoke violence? Joe and Shannon talk about the wide range of music genres they both listen to, the band member roommates of the past, favorite concerts and their favorite Beatle.
Physical and financial limitations meant movies and tv were the staple of entertainment for Joe growing up. He and Shannon talk about what content is appropriate for kids, ask if sex or violence is less harmful, and how much should censors allow overall? How much do vicarious experiences shape us as people?
Shannon makes Joe completely uncomfortable by explaining how running strip clubs and bachelor parties led her to running a less legal, private service that catered to clients with fetishes. She shares some of the clients’ requests and how they were handled, including how she met her second husband. Joe remembers his babysitter that, unbeknownst to him at the time, was a dominatrix.
Shannon explains how her first husband exposed her to gentlemen’s clubs, how she worked in her first one illegally, and how she used her business and management skills in clubs all over the county. She explains the structure of clubs to Joe, who claims to have never been in one. She also explains how bachelor parties work outside of a club – and how she helped organize a network of private entertainment.
Joe takes the lead and talks about holidays then and now, good and bad, real and fake. He and Shannon remember some of their holidays, including some they would rather forget, and talk about the difficulty of having traditions with no traditional family.
