I was working outside in the hot sun today and after lunch I had some free time, so I decided I would make a monologue about some of my childhood memories of Hong Kong.
This is the first part of an ongoing series on my memories of Hong Kong between 1980-1993. This first one is a bit of a rambleathon and my head had been cooked by the hot sun, so I may have made a few small errors in factual details. But none the less, after listening to this, I think you'll have a good sense of what it was like to live in Hong Kong as an expat kid in 1980-1982.
Be warned, this recording contains references to testicles, toads, BMX, stealing Hell Money, a crazy eyed Chinese lady by the name of Yisi Olin, a phlegm spitting Chinese guard, a gambling black man, Atari, Atari Asteroids, Paddle Tennis, Atlas Moths, Chinese Cobras, shooting kids with plastic bullets, a Chinese boy called Bong, dismembered ships, Chicken Hawks and my dominance on the BMX circuit.
You can find Rise Park Villas on Google Earth. In 1980-1982, most of the surrounding area was hills, vegetation and old Chinese villages.
I'll see if I can dig up some old photos in the next few weeks !
