Surprise! Zoon takes over on this pop up episode to let us know what he's listening to.

Zoon is the musical moniker of Hamilton’s Daniel Monkman. Born in Selkirk, Manitoba, and raised in Brokenhead Ojibway Nation, Monkman saw the horrors of Canadian racism everyday. This sadly led to him abusing alcohol and drugs. However, Monkman found solace in his self-proclaimed “moccasin-gaze” a combination of 90s shoegaze with traditional First Nations music. His debut album Bleached Wavves, which was one of our favorite records of 2020, was recorded in his bedroom and his jam space, using only a Fender Deville guitar and DigiTech delay pedal. Zoon has chosen Becks 2002 album, Sea Change.

For our first episode we are looking at the 1996 album First Band on the Moon by The Cardigans. 

Our musical guest is Neil MacDonald formerly of The Candidates, The Machines, and Red Orchestra. His first two albums with The Candidates came out in the early 2000s and were perfectly situated to an era that included bands like The Strokes, The Vines, Jet, and Soundtrack of our Lives. Bands that firmly embraced their love of the past.
