Our guests this morning are Kevin Sousa and Michael Collins.
Dr. Michael Collins is a paddler, surfer, artist and psychologist who lives, works, and plays in Hermosa
Beach. About 3 years ago, an oil company began a campaign that would attempt to convince the citizens
of Hermosa Beach to lift their current ban on oil and gas drilling. The notion of allowing a 34 well oil and
gas drilling operation to set up camp in the middle of Hermosa Beach was seen as a direct threat to
everything that his community stood for, which is why Mike and his friends formed ‘Stop Hermosa
Beach Oil’, and united under the banner, "Keep Hermosa Hermosa." Michael believes this grass roots
effort has captured the spirit of Hermosa Beach with passion, creativity, heart and endurance.
Kevin Sousa is the co-founder of Keep Hermosa Hermosa. He lives and works in Hermosa Beach as a
psychotherapist. Kevin is also a musician who performs regularly in and around the South Bay. In
addition, Kevin is an avid waterman.
This morning, we’re going to discuss Measure O which is on the ballot next month and proposes oil
drilling in Hermosa Beach. This is an intensely controversial subject and today we’ll talk about why
drilling in Hermosa should not be allowed.

Todd Loewenstein has 20+ years experience in technology sales, operations, management, and business development. He is well-connected in the local political community, having served as the President of the Redondo Beach Unified School District’s Board of Education. Todd is the President of R4: Redondo Residents for Responsible Revitalization. R4 is a political action committee comprised of residents, political leaders, and business owners that is dedicated to preserve and enhance the quality of life for Redondo Beach residents through education, advocacy, and legislation of responsible development.
Returning guest, Jim Light, is the President of Building a Better Redondo, a non-profit resident group dedicated to preserving and enhancing resident quality of life. Jim has been an active community volunteer since he moved here in 1989, serving on the executive committee of South Bay Surfrider and a President and board member of the South Bay Parkland Conservancy. Light's background includes engineering and executive leadership experience in the US Air Force and the aerospace industry. Jim holds an Aerospace Engineering degree and a Masters in Business Administration.
This morning we’ll be discussing the possible future of the AES power plant site and Measure B. which will be on the ballot next month.

A classically trained ballet dancer, Christie hails from the northern California town of Vacaville. She attended Fresno State University before landing a position as corporate trainer for Applebees.
Loli Ramezani, Certified Senior Advisor (CSA)®, is the Owner and President of Always Best Care Senior Services in Manhattan Beach where she has lived since 1993 with her husband and two daughters. Always Best Care Senior Services is part of a Franchise and provides qualified caregivers to senior clients helping them with their daily activities as well as free referral services for Assisted Living Communities.
Jerry Carew is the proprietor of 3 Leaf Realty located in Manhattan Beach. A native of Ireland, Jerry has settled nicely into the Beach Cities lifestyle. He started his real estate career in 2001 and quickly became a top producer in the South Bay closing over 20 transactions a year.

All of today’s guests will be participating in this year’s Dancing with the Stars IV. The event takes place this Saturday, February 7 at the James Armstrong Theater in Torrance.
Melissa Griswold is the Multimedia Account Executive for The Daily Breeze located in Torrance. She lives in San Pedro and is dancing for Rainbow Services Ltd.
Stephen Goldstein is the President of Payroll Management Solutions, Inc. located in Los Angeles. Steve lives in Redondo Beach and he’ll be dancing for Pediatric Therapy Network.
Michael Rouse resides in El Segundo and is the Vice President of Diversity, Philanthropy & Community Affairs for Toyota located in Torrance. Michael won the competition during the first season of DWTSBS and will be a co-host for this year’s event.
Cherie Davis is the General Manager for the Miyako Hybrid Hotel in Torrance and was the second place winner of DWTSBS for season one. She’ll be co-hosting this year with Michael.
Christian Wolf is the Executive and Artistic Director for the Torrance Cultural Arts Foundation and a regular contributor to this program. Chris has been the event emcee in prior years but this year, he’ll be dancing in the competition for the Food for Kids Program of the Volunteer Center.

Returning guest, Mickey Marraffino, is a Certified Marketing Executive in the shopping center industry. She grew up in Massachusetts and attended The American University in Washington DC, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration. Mickey began her career in Washington, DC. In search of warmer weather, she moved to the Inland Empire before landing in Redondo Beach 20 years ago. Mickey was the West Coast Regional Marketing Director for Forest City at South Bay Galleria, where she oversaw the marketing of six regional shopping centers.
Christina Jesperson is the Managing Partner and Financial Consultant for the Retirement Protection Group. Christine is passionate about her community and she and her husband started the grass roots community group, Voices for Waterfront Vitality. In addititon, Christina currently sits on the Board of Directors for Pediatric Therapy Network, is the First VP of Philanthropy for Las Candalistas and has been a member of the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce since 2000. She earned a Masters of Art in Sociology from the University of North Colorado and in her spare time enjoys golf, reading and cooking.

Our guest this morning is Chief Sharon Papa of the Hermosa Beach Police Dept.
Chief Papa has served in law enforcement for 34 years, working for the Santa Monica Police Department, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police Department and the LAPD, before being sworn in as the Chief of Police in Hermosa Beach on October 1st, 2013.
She has overseen Patrol Operations, Detective Divisions, Specialized Enforcement Teams, Support Services Personnel, Jail Operations, Media and Community Relations, Human Resources and Budget and Finance.
Sharon has championed a wide variety of innovative programs such as the LAPD Military Liaison Program, which won national recognition and was presented with an award by President George W. Bush in the Oval Office of the White House.
She also created the first Animal Cruelty Task Force in the country which investigates and prosecutes animal abuse cases in Los Angeles.
Her team was featured on Animal Planet.
Chief Papa is a highly sought after public speaker and mentor. She routinely lectures at high schools, college campuses and universities.
She believes everyone has an obligation to share their knowledge and abilities and regularly meets with employees to provide feedback and guidance so they can attain their career goals.
She is an active member of the Peace Officers Association of Los Angeles County and has served as president on two occasions.
