Our guests this morning are Manhattan Beach City Council Members Tony D’Errico and Mark Burton.
Mark Burton has lived in the South Bay for over 50 years and is a former Senior Assistant City Attorney
with over 30 years of public service to the City of LA. As a former Senior Assistant City Attorney, he
served as a Prosecutor and represented police officers, firefighters and the city in state and federal
courts.
He also served as a management attorney where he advised city leaders, such as Mayors, Council
members, city commissioners, department heads and upper level management in managing their
employees and issues.
Tony D’Errico has lived in Manhattan Beach for 17 years and currently owns a local business, Bella
Beach, with his wife and daughter. Prior to that, he enjoyed 30 plus years as an international business
executive.
As Vice President and Group Executive of a major California technology company, he led a
$180 million per year worldwide business and created a multi-million dollar consulting division with
operations throughout North America, Europe and Asia Pacific.

Our guests this morning are Monica Frey, Karen Block and Helen Block of Soroptimist International of Manhattan Beach.
Monica Frey has been a member of Soroptimist International of Manhattan Beach since 2008 and Chairperson of Lunafest for the 5th year in a row.
In addition to chairing the event and serving on several other committees, she has served on the SIMB Board of Directors as VP of Programs, and 1st and 2nd Year Director.
Monica is currently the Assistant General Manager for the Manhattan Village Shopping Center and has been associated with the mall since 1986. She currently oversees all of the Operations of the shopping center and is an active team member working on the proposed redevelopment.
Karen Block has been a member of Soroptimist International of Manhattan Beach for 6 years. In that time she has served in numerous positions including President from 2010 to 2012.
Helen Block has been a Soroptimist for over 25 years and is currently serving as President.
She has chaired many of the various projects, including the public service project, the screening of the documentary film “Miss Representation.”
She also chaired the recent art exhibit “The World Through the Eyes of Women” which featured 27 women artist from Turkey.
This morning, the ladies are going to tell us all about LunaFest which takes place this Sunday, March 30 at the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center and is sponsored by Soroptimist International.

March 25, 2014 Ben Green, CEO, American Red Cross of San Gabriel Pomona Valley
Our guest this morning is Ben Green.
Ben is CEO of the American Red Cross of San Gabriel Pomona Valley.
Ben joined the Chapter as CEO in January, 2007. He brings with him 18 years of experience in non-profit management, having served as Executive Director of the Pasadena Senior Center and the Mizell Senior Center in Palm Springs.
Ben previously managed community programs, facilities and events as a Recreation Professional for 15 years.
He is an active member of the Pasadena Rotary and is the Chair Elect of the Pasadena Chamber.
Ben’s relationship with the Red Cross began early in life. At the age of 15, he volunteered for the organization’s Lifesaving Program. He moved on to serve as a first aid and aquatics instructor throughout the 1970s, becoming a credentialed water safety instructor trainer in 1975.
He has served on the Board of Directors for the Mid-America Chapter of the American Red Cross in Chicago and was an active volunteer with three other Chapters in Springfield and Rolla, Missouri and Riverside County, California.
Ben obtained his bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation administration from Missouri State in Springfield, Missouri.
March is Red Cross month and Ben is here to tell us all about it.

Our guests this morning are Shaunna McKelvey and Marcelo Freitas
Shaunna is the General Manager of Shade Hotel in Manhattan Beach. She is a native of Manhattan Beach and has spent 20 years in the food, beverage and hospitality industry.
She returned to Los Angeles to attend UCLA where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in English
Literature. Shaunna’s passion is the study of exceptional leadership and superior guest service.
She is inspired by her work, her team and the incredible opportunities Shade Hotel has offered her.
His initial intention was to spend only 3 or 4 months in the area.
He unknowingly began his career in the restaurant industry as a busser in Sausalito, proceeded to work as a waiter/bartender and then moved into management.
The desire for more food and wine knowledge was sparked while working at Postrio in 1992 with the then "not so famous" Chef Wolfgang Puck.
Marcelo started learning more and more about food and wine, became a certified sommelier in 1997 and has been designing wine lists and managing several top restaurants in SF and Marin County ever since.
His passion for wine took a turn in 2006 when he met Agustin Huneeus, proprietor of Quintessa and three short weeks later, Marcelo began working for Agustin at Quintessa winery.
This morning, we’re going to learn about Shade Hotel’s monthly Wine Academy which takes place tonight and will be featuring the wines of Quintessa.

Jeff is the Director of Emergency Management at the Chief Executive Office for Los Angeles County.
Prior to his promotion as Director, he was the Program Manager at the OEM.
Jeff is a former Fire Marshal, and Deputy Chief of Emergency Services Bureau, for the Long Beach Fire Department.
He attended the Naval Post Graduate School, Center for Domestic and Homeland Security; the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government and Ohio State University.
March 23 through March 29 is Tsunami Awareness Week and today we’ll be discussing tsunami awareness and preparedness with one of the experts on the subject.

Liz is the General Manager of the Manhattan Village Shopping Center.
She also sits on the Board of Directors for the Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce and is Chair of
the Manhattan Beach Economic Development Committee.
The EDC works with the Chamber on some of the initiatives they are currently working on within the
City.
In addition, her committee will be helping the Chamber host both the economic forum and legislative
luncheon.

Our guest this morning is Matt Bennett.
Matt is the Communications and Special Events Manager for the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce and handles all media relations, social media and online communications for the Chamber.
Additionally, Matt is responsible for organizing and managing special events, including the Hermosa Beach St. Patrick's Day Parade, Sidewalk Festivals and the Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony.
He also coordinated the Los Angeles Kings Stanley Cup Rally at Hermosa Beach Pier Plaza in 2012.
Prior to joining the Chamber, Matt spent 15 seasons in Community Relations for the Los Angeles Angels, Oakland Athletics and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
A native of Florida, Matt received a Degree in Communications from the University of Florida and a Masters of Sports Management from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Today, Matt is going to tell us all about the Hermosa Beach St. Patrick’s Day Parade which takes place this weekend, Saturday, March 15

March 12, 2014 Barry Brisk, Conductor Beach Cities Symphony Orchestra
Barry Brisk first conducted in public at the age of 14, when he performed selections from South Pacific at his graduation from Webster Jr. High School in West Los Angeles.
As a student he also conducted the orchestras at University High School, Mount St. Mary's College and the University of Music (formerly Academy of Music) in Vienna, Austria, where he studied with the prominent conductor/teacher Hans Swarowsky (the teacher of Zubin Mehta and Claudio Abbado).
Professionally, Brisk has conducted many orchestras in Southern California, as well as Mexico and Austria.
Maestro Brisk has been Music Director of the Beach Cities Symphony since 1994 and is particularly proud of having expanded the orchestra's repertoire.
He has conducted works by more than 80 composers, more than a dozen of whom are living. Two of his own compositions were premiered at BCS concerts; Serenade for Orchestra (May 2007) and Kaleidoscope (January 2010).
His 1984 Concerto for Trombone and Strings was played in March 2012.
Maestro Brisk's wife, Cathy, is an internationally recognized expert on ancient Greek coins. Their first grandchild, Philip Anderson Grell-Brisk, currently 3 1/2 years old, uses a toy piano for his musical activities.
Their son, Philip, is an Assistant Prof. of Computer Science at the University of California, Riverside.
Philip's wife, Marilyn, is working on her Phd. in Political Science as the University of Neuchatel, Switzerland.

We want to congratulate our producer, George Butts, for delivering this highly informative program every Tuesday morning for the past two years and sharing it with our listeners.
George is the President of Manhattan Beach C.E.R.T. and has been the program’s fearless leader for over five years and he was recently named the American Red Cross Ambassador to Manhattan Beach.
From the start, we’ve taken an all-hazards approach to the subject, covering a wide spectrum of disaster related topics with experts from around the globe, including, how to prepare before a disaster strikes, what to do during the event and the challenging recovery process.
It should go without saying, we’ve learned a lot over the last two years.
