We have a couple of returning guests this morning, Tom Bakaly and Lauren Nakano from Beach Cities Health District.

Tom Bakaly is Chief Executive Officer of Beach Cities Health District, where he has served since November 2016. Tom provides strategic leadership and direction to all functions of one of the nation’s largest preventative health agencies and manages $90 million in assets, 170 employees and 1,000 volunteers.

Lauren Nakano has been the Director of the Blue Zones Project for the past eight years and has been on staff at Beach Cities Health District for 20+ years. Through the Blue Zones Project, she has the honor of working with organizations and individuals in the Beach Cities to implement an innovative population health initiative that focuses on environmental and policy change to measurably impact community well-being.

This morning, our guests will tell us about the new ‘Safe in the South Bay Program’, a pledge that businesses can take to show they are following the proper protocol to safely reopen and slow the spread of COVID-19 for their employees and customer.

This morning, we’re pleased to host Angela Klenk, founding attorney at Beach Cities Estate Law.

Angela is Board Certified as a Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust & Probate Law by the State Bar of California, Board of Legal Specialization, and has been advising families and individuals in Trusts and Estates for over 20 years. She grew up in the South Bay and is a graduate of Bishop Montgomery High School.  She earned her BBA in Marketing at the University of Notre Dame (magna cum laude) and her law degree from the UCLA School of Law (Order of the Coif).

After five years at a major law firm in Los Angeles, four years at a boutique estate planning firm on the Westside, and six years serving as the personal advisor to the former CEO of a Fortune 500 company, she established Beach Cities Estate Law to serve clients here in the South Bay.

Angela is active with many professional associations in the South Bay, and serves on the board of directors of South Bay Estate Planning Council.

This morning, Angela will discuss how COVID 19 has changed the way many clients think about estate planning, and what you can do to make sure you and your loved ones are protected in the current climate.

Lynn has been advising and defending employers in employment law matters for over 25 years. She counsels human resources and operations professionals on the legal aspects of employment policies and conducts training and workplace investigations. She has her own practice in Manhattan Beach called Employer Lawyer PC. Lynne received her B.A. Cum Laude in Philosophy and Political Science at USC then went on to complete her JD of Law at Notre Dame Law School. In her spare time Lynne volunteers extensively for American Martyrs Church, National Charity League and St. Frances X. Cabrini Catholic School.

The coronavirus pandemic has created new hurdles with regard to employment law and this morning, our guest will give us some pointers on how to navigate this brave new world.

We have a returning guest this morning, Heidi Butzine. She is the President and CEO of the Lomita Chamber of Commerce.

Heidi is an entrepreneur at heart and has been a business and marketing consultant for well over 25 years. She along with her partner, own and run a Brick and Mortar Business in Lomita called Social Workplace (a cowork, office & meeting space) and Localista Media (a marketing agency).  Heidi is a South Bay native and has been an active leader in the business community for the past 10 years. She’s taken her business savvy and experience serving in leadership and Board roles for local Chambers of Commerce and several Business Associations, and applying it to leading the Lomita Chamber of Commerce --  which just had its one-year anniversary in April!

This morning, Heidi is going to share with us how the Lomita Chamber is helping businesses navigate the reopening process in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic, she’ll also talk about how the Chamber is bringing a modified socially distanced Farmers Market to Lomita in July, and she’ll discuss her appointment to the LA County Economic Resiliency Task Force.

Kelly Fogarty has been a member of Soroptimist for 18 years, and is currently serving as Vice President for Membership. She was part of the original committee that first brought Lunafest to the South Bay in 2007.

Karen Masini has been a member for 12 years and handles the Soroptimist website and other technological needs. She works as the IT and Business Operations manager for Girl Scouts of Greater Los AErin Rye, and her phone is (352) 871-1087. She will be expecting your call at 8:00 a.m.

Erin Rye and partner Jessica Sherif made the film "Lady Parts" which is a funny/serious look at sexism in the entertainment industry and will be one of the featured films.
