Our guests this morning are Sandy Goodman, Co-Founder of South Bay Mo Bros and Mark Hedstrom from the Movember Foundation.
Three years ago, Sandy Goodman started the South Bay Mo Bros with co-captain, Lars Viklund, in hopes of bringing the Movember message to our community and painting the town hairy. They scrambled to throw together a golf tournament at PVGC that year, and now it has matured into a fun and successful tournament that will probably raise $50,000 this year. Last year, they introduced a raffle that local shops can donate to and teammates can help sell. Sandy believes the raffle will explode this year and be a huge success.
Mark Hedstrom is the US country director for the Movember Foundation, a global men’s health charity that is raising awarness . The Movember community has raised over $650 million, and has funded almost 1,000 programs in 21 countries. The Movember Foundation’s aim is to have an everlasting impact on men’s health by helping men to live longer, healthier and happier lives. Mark is responsible for setting the strategy and effectively executing Movember’s annual campaign in the United States. This includes overseeing, marketing, public relations, corporate partnerships, business and community engagement, finance and operations.
This morning, we’re going to discuss where and how the Movember Movement began and what fundraising events the South Bay Mo Bros and their sponsors have planned for the month.

December 30, 2015 Blue Zones Project Redondo Beach
Our guests this morning are Lauren Nakano and Susan Burden from the Beach Cities Health District.
Lauren Nakano is a South Bay native and long-time resident of the Beach Cities. She is the Director of the Blue Zones Project for the past three years and has been on staff at Beach Cities Health District, the largest preventive health agency in the nation, for the past 20 years. Her professional purpose and passion is transforming communities. Through the Blue Zones Project she has the honor of working with the organizations and individuals in Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach to implement an innovative community well-being initiative.
Susan Burden is Chief Executive Officer of Beach Cities Health District, where she has served since 2004. She provides strategic leadership and direction to all functions of one of the nation’s largest preventative health agencies and manages $90 million in assets, 175 employees and 700 active volunteers. In 2010, Susan played an integral role in bringing the nationally recognized Blue Zones Project, a community-wide initiative to create healthier and more productive citizens, to the Beach Cities in 2010. Since its inception, the Blue Zones Project has successfully lowered smoking and obesity rates in the community. In addition to her leadership at Beach Cities Health District, Susan is on the Board of Directors of the American Heart Association’s L.A. Region, as well as the chambers of commerce in Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach.
This morning we’re going to discuss all aspects of the Blue Zones Project and how the BCHD is implementing this initiative in the South Bay.

Steven F. Carvel, J.D., LL.M. is a Manhattan Beach based estate planning attorney that has worked in the community for over ten years handling estate planning needs. As a member of the Manhattan Beach Kiwanis Club, this year he has assumed responsibility for the Manhattan Beach Santa Float, which has been a tradition in the community since 1959.
Deann Flores Chase is the Founder of Chase Law Group that does business locally as South Bay Business Lawyers, a boutique law firm dedicated to providing responsive, one-on-one, client services to entrepreneurs, business owners and professionals in the South Bay and throughout the State of California.
The Santa Float will be on display at various holiday events, or touring the streets of Manhattan Beach on its assigned routes, from November 30 through December 17, 2015.

Our guests this morning are Mario del Pero,Co- Founder of Mendocino Farms, Collette Navarette of Federal Realty and Zoe Kasiske from SoulCycle.
Zoe Kasiske was born and raised in Venice, CA. She attended the University of Wisconsin where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and a second Bachelor’s degree in Biology.
Mario Del Pero created Mendocino Farms with his partner and wife Ellen Chen in 2003, opening their first unit in Downtown Los Angeles in 2005. Having grown to ten locations so far, Mendocino Farms restaurants are some of the highest grossing sales per foot restaurants in the city, while also being some of the most loved. After receiving an investment from private equity firm Catterton Partners,
Collette Navarrette lives in San Jose, California, with her husband and two children. She graduated from San Jose University with a Communications major and Business Marketing minor. Collette is currently the West Coast Marketing Director for Federal Realty Investment Trust whose new South Bay project, The Point, is set to open the end of this month.
This morning, we’ll be talking about the Grand Opening of The Point which will take place over several days beginning Thursday, July 30. There are all sorts of special events planned during which the community will get an idea of what to expect from this much anticipated lifestyle center.
