In this episode of The Sow to Speak Podcast, I’m back with another installment of March Madness, where I’m debunking worn-out and overused leadership clichés. Today, I’m diving into a myth that many leaders believe: that the most supportive leaders are available 24/7.
I’m sharing why this idea is not only unrealistic but also counterproductive for both you and your team. Instead, I’ll offer powerful reframes that will help you become a more effective and sustainable leader while empowering your team to rise to the occasion.
Plus, I’ll share a secret most leaders are afraid to admit, and why letting go of constant availability can actually strengthen your leadership presence.

Let’s be clear—the best leaders aren’t fearless. They feel the fear, they just know how to move through it without letting it run the show. Whether you’re making tough decisions, navigating a difficult conversation, or leading through uncertainty, fear is always going to show up. But it doesn’t have to control you or your leadership style.
In this episode, we’ll explore:
Because great leaders don’t eliminate fear—they just learn to manage it and move forward with purpose.

March Madness: Flipping Leadership Clichés on Their Head
March Madness isn’t just for basketball—we’re taking the madness off the court and out of the boardroom. Leadership advice is everywhere, which can lead the newest or most seasoned leaders going a bit bananas.
Let’s be honest: a lot of it is oversimplified, outdated, or just plain exhausting. This month, we’re calling out the most overused leadership clichés and flipping them on their heads—Sow to Speak style. Because you don’t need one-size-fits-all advice—you need strategies that actually work.
We’re kicking things off with a big one: "No is a complete sentence." Sounds empowering, right? But for thoughtful, human-centered leaders, a hard, flat “no” can feel… well, impossible. If your leadership is built on trust and collaboration, this advice might actually backfire. So instead of blindly adopting it, we’re rethinking what you’re really saying yes to when you set boundaries—and how to do it in a way that protects both your time and your relationships.
🔹 Why "No is a complete sentence" falls apart in real-world leadership
🔹 The hidden downsides of overusing no—spoiler: it’s not what you think
🔹 A shift that makes saying no feel strategic and energizing, not draining
🔹 Three ways to say no without actually saying no
🔹 How to set boundaries that strengthen relationships instead of breaking them
Hit play and get ready to ditch leadership clichés that don’t serve you—because you deserve strategies that actually work. 🎧🔥

Ever feel like setting boundaries makes you look mean? Like you’re going to come across as the bad guy for simply protecting your time and energy? You’re not alone. So many high-achieving leaders struggle with the guilt that creeps in when they say no—but here’s the truth: boundaries aren’t barriers. They’re an act of care, for you and your team.
In this episode, I’m sharing three practical strategies that actually work for setting boundaries without the guilt—so you can lead with clarity, confidence, and influence. You’ll walk away knowing how to say no in a way that feels good, stays empathetic, and (spoiler alert!) often earns more respect, not less.
EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS:
✅ Reframing boundaries as an act of care—why protecting your time benefits everyone around you.
✅ Ditching the guilt-loaded apologies—how to be clear and direct and while showing genuine empathy and support.
✅ Offering smart alternatives—what to do if suggesting someone else feels like you’re just passing the buck (hint: this could lead to a game-changing conversation about workload and efficiency).
Plus, real-life examples of exactly what to say in tricky situations—so you can start practicing right away.
