Early Friday morning at Gulf State Park Pier, the world was just beginning to wake up. The movers and shakers appeared quietly from the darkness, rods in hand, coffee steaming on the railing beside carved initials that read, “Janice and Tom Forever.”

I couldn’t help but wonder where they are now. Funny how “forever” can sometimes be a short time.

Was it just a summer romance? Or were they here celebrating 25 years together? Who knows. But carved into the railing of that old pier, their moment still lives on.

It’s not a bad thing to leave your mark. No matter how it turns out. We all define our existence in different ways: through the hearts we touch, the memories we create, the compassion we show.

The real footprint isn’t in the wood or the sand. It’s in the people around you. And that kind of mark lasts longer than we think.

So here’s to Janice and Tom, wherever they are. Thanks for the smiles you left behind.

Remember, life is rarely a simple choice between light and shadow. It’s a constant balancing act between highs and lows, wins and losses, beginnings and endings.
