Meanwhile, the ancient Tiki Leaders were a peculiar bunch. Part philosophers, part fortune tellers, and part adventurers, they believed the best way to predict the future was to learn from the past. They taught that if you wanted a different life, you had to be willing to think differently, act differently, and occasionally paddle against the current while everyone else followed the crowd.
Trend setters they were.
One morning, while walking down an old fishing pier just after sunrise, I noticed a small group gathered around a fisherman. The morning air smelled of saltwater and bait, and the gulls were already arguing over breakfast.
The fisherman stood quietly near the end of the pier. He cast his line into the water and slowly worked it back toward him. Back and forth he moved the rod tip, patient and deliberate, the line tightened. With a quick snap of the rod, a fish took the bait.
The small crowd watched as he reeled it in and laid it gently on the wooden planks of the pier where it flip-flopped around in protest.
One man in the crowd shook his head and laughed. "How do you do that every time?" he asked.
The fisherman smiled without looking up. "By learning how not to do it every time," he replied.
The truth is, most people only see the successful cast. They don't see the hundreds that landed in the wrong place. They don't see the tangled lines, the missed opportunities, the fish that got away, or the mornings when nothing seemed to work.
Life is much the same way.
Every mistake teaches a lesson. Every setback teaches patience. Every wrong turn teaches direction. The people who eventually succeed are rarely the people who never fail. More often, they're the people who refuse to stop learning from their failures.
Remember, don't be discouraged by the casts that come up empty. Every attempt is teaching you something. Every setback is preparing you for the next opportunity.
One day, when someone asks how you make it look so easy, you'll smile and know the answer.
Have a fantastic day, see you on the radio.
