"I was just 16 when you took my virginity on your office floor. Do you remember that?" Those are the words from Bobbi Gephart, who confronted her abuser in front of his congregation after he gave a "confession" of an "affair" some 20 years ago. John Lowe II lied on stage, telling his church that he had an "affair," leaving out an important detail--it was no affair at all. Instead, he raped a 16 year old girl and abused her for years.

This is a case-in-point that survivors of abuse have more power than their abusers give them credit for. Lowe was completely blindsided, not expecting his victim to take the stage after his "confession."

It keeps getting worse and worse for the SBC. The more we learn, the more we realize it is reckless at best and, at worst, completely incapable of change. After publicly claiming that it was impossible to create a database, we now know that it had it's own secret list of predator pastors all along.

The SBC has a long road ahead, but honestly we're not convinced that it will change. We'll give our reasons why we think that, and give our opinion on what it will take to actually begin to change this broken culture of abuse and cover-ups.
