It’s time to start the second season.

This season we will have a livestream video format as well as our consistent audio one. For our video we will stream to our YouTube channel, our Facebook page, and our Twitter page. I felt that it was time to open up in a different way and allow people to see more as we discuss and share information.

This episode takes a look into the mind and thought process of the host. As he asks himself questions he at the same time challenges us for answers as we reflect on the words he speaks. Joining us today is Dr. Paigton Mayes, a community/health psychologist. Her education includes a Ph.D. in Community psychology and a masters in public health. She is also the owner of AmonBooks.  

This episode (The Culture of Physical Health in the Black Community) takes a deeper look into the norms and culture of the African American community regarding physical health as well as mental health. We discuss the effects of generational trauma, the importance of a safe space when it comes to therapy, the pharmaceutical business, the lack of access to resources and services as well as the pros/cons of higher education in the medical field. The highlight of the episode, in my opinion, is when we brainstormed on what it would take to start our own hospital/dentist office. We brainstormed what it would take to ensure economic independence in this field resulting in our community having long term access to affordable if not free services and resources.
