Human beings adapt to belong.

Initially, those adaptations may help us preserve connection, stability, approval, or safety. But when they are repeated, they can become more than behaviors.

They can become identity.

We no longer experience them only as something we do. We begin to experience them as who we are.

There are moments in life when we realize that the grief we’re carrying isn’t only about what happened.

Sometimes it’s the grief of recognizing that the person we most wanted to understand us may never fully be able to.
