The Southern Poverty Law Center has finally admitted what many of those it has attacked over the years – including yours truly – have said about it:  The SPLC gets its facts wrong, falsely characterizing those it lists as “haters” and worse.  In the process, it causes material harm to victims of its smears. 

All of this was confirmed in a $3.3 million settlement the Southern Poverty Law Center reached this week with Maajid Nawaz and the Quilliam Foundation. As our Center for Security Policy, along with nearly fifty others, declared in response:  This payment is “tangible proof that the SPLC…amounts to little more than a leftist instrument of political warfare.”

Now that the SPLC affirms it’s an unreliable source of information, social media platforms, corporate sponsors and journalists who have enabled its falsehoods to spread must disassociate themselves publicly from this discredited organization.
