The Spoken Word - March 10, 2026

God will be faithful to every covenant and promise He establishes with humanity, but He will fulfill them in His timing not ours, and nothing can prevent it, not even old age. But, we are required to walk faithfully with Him, be totally obedient to what He commands, and His receive with meekness His engrafted word which through its transformative power redefines our identity.

As we close out our study in Genesis 16, let us remember that we have a sure future, based on certain promises, and trust in Him Who not only sees and hears us, but also is able to do exceedingly and abundantly above all we can hope and believe and wait on Him (actively) and be of good courage.

Learn to trust in the promises of God, stand on them, wait on Him, rehearse them in your own hearing. God's timing is perfect, even when you think the promise is in delay. Don't try to help God but follow His instructions. Don't run out on the fight, stand, persevere, and see His salvation.

Sometimes we get impatient waiting on God to fulfill His promises to us, this can lead to doubt or us attempting to take matters into our own hands rather than waiting on His timing. Without faith we cannot please God, faith requires waiting on and trusting in God. Trust helps us know that God sees us and that He will not overlook us nor withhold no good thing from us. When we don’t trust this shows a lack of faith in His power and may end up in our violating spiritual principles meant to protect us. Sometimes in our fear, doubt, or unbelief we run away from God, which also is not the correct solution. Running away from problems does not solve them. In spite or our failings and even our unfaithfulness, God remains faithfulness, to His name, to His word and to His compassionate nature. He will continue to fulfill His covenant and His purposes.

God is not slow or negligent in fulfilling His promises; there is a specific, predetermined time for every season under heaven. God has a purpose for every activity and event in life. When God determines something then, it will occur, and in the time appointed for it, not prematurely nor late. We then, must learn to wait on the Lord’s timing trusting that He will do the thing that He has purposed. God see us, He hears us, He knows our anxious thoughts but these will not persuade Him to move before the appointed time. We have to believe, not try to make events occur out of season, for to do so can result in grave consequences. Trusting in God also means learning to stay put in hard places, knowing that His grace is sufficient.

We have been shown how trusting God leads to our being made right with Him. In God’s word we have great and precious promises by which we become partakers of His very nature and in how God deals with Abram we see the certainty of God’s promises and how God meets us in our doubt, assuring us of God’s faithfulness and the seriousness of His promises. This trusting in God’s “great and precious promises” leads to our transformation. God’s quiets our fears as we see God as our shield, our protector and rewarder and encourages us to trust in His provision and care.

In this chapter we five core doctrines that underpin our faith, reminding us of its importance, the necessity of leadership, as well as God’s role in guiding and protecting those who trust in Him through all of life’s challenges and obstacles through Abram’s battle, his rescue of Lot, his refusal to depend on the ungodly instead of God, and his encounter with Melchizedek, the priest/king.
