This weekend’s new showdown between four island women’s football teams may have never come to be, were it not for rebellious act by a Guernsey referee many decades ago.

Starting today at 5pm and continuing on Saturday, the Cherry Godfrey Cup will see Jersey, Guernsey, Isle of Wight and Isle of Man face off against each other to see who will be crowned the top footballing island.
