I sat down with Lisa Goodin, winner of the 2024 San Diego Rock'N'Roll Half Marathon (also my wife and athlete!), to recap her experience competing in the iconic race, her mental strategies, some of her training and preparation leading up to the race, and her nutrition strategies. Lisa also shares about breaking through mental barriers and doubt, and how she thinks more people could be challenging their own limits with equal parts resilience, determination, gratitude, and community.

In this episode, I talk with professional powerlifters Kristen Dunsmore and Garrett Blevins about intensity and how it affects periodization and programming decisions and the resultant physiology in powerlifting. We take interesting tangents into sex differences in training, long-term athlete development (LTAD) in strength vs endurance sports, and problems with training studies in the scientific literature.

In this episode, I have a conversation with one of my long-time mentors, Coach Meg Ritchie Stone. Coach Stone is a two-time Olympian, world record holder, and multiple NCAA DI champion in the discus and shot put. She was also the first female strength and conditioning coach and has helped pave the road not only for better female representation in coaching but for the strength and conditioning profession at large. She is also married to Dr. Michael Stone and together they still direct the sport science doctoral program at ETSU and run the Center of Excellence for Sport Science and Coaching Education.
