  • Clippers Fallout, Day Two: Who Lied, Why Frank Got Six Months & Pablo's Next Target Is the Dodgers

The punishment was yesterday. The reckoning is tonight.

Grant and John Browner start with the question hanging over everything: the NBA's verdict and ESPN's reporting can't both be true — so who lied? John's journalism monologue ("a journalist is only worth their name") sets up the theory the whole show runs on: Lawrence Frank got six months while everyone above him got a year, and cooperation is the only math that explains it. Beav joins with the 2000 Timberwolves precedent — cooperate and picks come back — and a simple message for the owner: just say you did it. Then, mid-show, Pablo Torre teases his next investigation and it's the Dodgers, complete with the Mark Walter-Trump jersey photo, and John connects the dots out loud: the White House visit, the ring, the Kushner-Iger math that never added up. E Lamb makes his SportsGrid debut off his Sporting Tribune piece on what Clippers fans actually deserve — "the sports arena with bells and whistles" — and argues this is the canary in the coal mine: billionaires don't become billionaires by being altruistic. Plus the Shaq-Jerry West story that says this has been happening since the nineties, the Amen Thompson deal (five years, $200M) and why he's the one Rocket worth paying, and John's closing prediction: if Ballmer loses his fight, he starts telling on everybody.

  • The Hammer Drops: Clippers Lose Five First-Round Picks, Ballmer Banned a Year & Kawhi Walks for $700K

Twelve months almost to the day after this show first tried to make sense of the Aspiration story, the NBA made it official — and Grant and John Browner walk through one of the harshest punishments in league history, line by line: a $30 million fine, five first-round picks gone (2029 through 2033, including the voided Pacers pick), Steve Ballmer suspended a year, Gillian Zucker a year, Lawrence Frank six months, Uncle Dennis banned five years — and Kawhi Leonard fined $700,000 with his contract intact. John's verdict: they dropped a nuke, and the only people truly punished are Ballmer and the fans. Josh Tariff joins with the eerie Joe Smith/Timberwolves parallel the show called a year ago, and Beav arrives to fight John over November 2: does Kawhi actually play at the Intuit Dome, or does he never make the trip? Plus the Clippers' scorched-earth response ("heavily biased... a predetermined result"), performed by John in its true musical form; the attorney letter calling it a witch hunt; the tinfoil-bodysuit theory about why the ESPN report and the verdict don't match; and Grant's autopsy of the Kawhi era — ten first-round picks, zero Finals. The show closes on a serious note with John's unsparing response to Penn State's Paterno museum plans.

  • Kroenke Buys the Angels for $3.9 Billion, Lane Kiffin Is a Snake in Snake Country & Don't Pay CJ Stroud

Everything in sports is for sale — and this time the buyer matters. Stan Kroenke is purchasing the Angels for a reported $3.9 billion, an MLB record, and Grant and John Browner explain why Angels fans just hit the owner jackpot: the land around the stadium, the LA Live-style build-out coming to Anaheim, and John's prediction that the Ducks end up in the Kroenke orbit next. Mykell Mathieu joins as a lifelong Angels fan ("the Galactic Empire has come to an end") and Steve Cofield of ESPN Las Vegas explains why the rest of baseball's owners should be nervous about a spender with no salary cap. Then John delivers his Lane Kiffin verdict — multiple national titles, because sometimes a snake lands in a place that loves snakes — and makes the case that Houston should not pay CJ Stroud until he proves it for two more years. It closes with Steve's read on NBA expansion in Vegas and the Portland ownership mess John says smells exactly like what happened to the Sonics.

  • Lamar Jackson Falls 67 Spots, the USC Attendance Firestorm & Dan Campbell Is Overrated

Grant and John Browner dig into the NFL Top 100, where Lamar Jackson — a multiple-time MVP who was No. 2 a year ago — fell 67 spots to No. 69 in a list voted on by the players themselves. John's read: this isn't a snub, it's confirmation that locker rooms don't fear him anymore. Arash Markazi joins fired up about the USC attendance story the whole country piled on: 100 degrees, San Jose State, a 38-point spread, and a noon kickoff nobody chose. John argues the schedule is the real problem, and the two land on the truth about Los Angeles — there are two of everything here, and football simply doesn't mean what it means in Texas. Josh Tariff arrives with the Packers autopsy: Matt LaFleur got an extension he shouldn't have, Green Bay let its leading receiver walk, and Micah Parsons is out four games. John's verdict on the division's other bench boss is even harsher — Dan Campbell is the most overrated coach in football, and that "run through a wall" style has an expiration date. It closes with the 49ers, George Kittle, and an organization whose wires are never crossed.

  • Aaron Donald Is Officially a Ram Again, OBJ's Giants Return & "Let Mendoza Stink"

The first show on SportsGrid lands on the perfect day: Aaron Donald is officially coming out of retirement, one year, $20 million. Grant and John Browner break down whether he plays Week 1, why a lowball offer was never possible, and John's only real question — under which mattress did the Rams find that money? Mykell Mathieu joins live from Rams practice, where he asked Donald himself what brought him back, and makes the case this was one of the greatest offseasons any team has ever had. Josh Tariff arrives with the fantasy math on what might be the best statistical defense ever assembled, plus two sleepers worth stashing. Then: Odell Beckham Jr. returns to the Giants and John isn't buying nostalgia, Will Levis gets waived and John explains the cycle bad organizations can never escape, and the Fernando Mendoza argument comes back with a vengeance — put him out there and let him stink.

  • Preseason's Over...So Where Is Aaron Donald? | Chargers-Rams Finale From SoFi

A special live reaction show from the Chargers-Rams preseason finale, with Tim Parker reporting live from SoFi.

The crew gets the full Justin Herbert experience — a fumble on the first drive, then a 60-yard bomb to Quentin Johnston — and John makes his case that this is finally Herbert's first complete season, just not a Super Bowl one. Tim's brutal read on Ty Simpson explains why Stetson Bennett still has the backup job, the preseason ending means Aaron Donald's clock has officially run out, and John explains what the Chargers actually broke in San Diego.

Then it turns into a war: John says this Clippers roster wins 20 games, Grant says 40-42 and calls the number disrespectful, and somewhere in there John delivers a genuine love letter to Steve Ballmer that ends with four words about Lawrence Frank.

  • The NFL Kills the Pro Bowl, Kuminga Says No to the Lakers & Jeanie's Day in Court

It's official-official: The Sporting Tribune Today joins SportsGrid on Monday, August 31 — 7AM and 11AM Eastern — and Grant, John Browner and Arash Markazi open with the celebration (and the suspiciously buff AI promo art). Then the news: the NFL has eliminated the Pro Bowl Games entirely, and John delivers the eulogy — the players ended this themselves, the Hawaii era gave way to the nothing era, and if the owners are smart, the "Pro Bowl bonus" leaves contracts next. The crew breaks down the league's new three-strikes suspension list (hip-drop yes, launching?!) and John's theory that gambling money is what's really softening football. Plus the Jed York bodycam video ("a handcuff training film"), the Lakers mess getting a court date — nothing resolves before November, and John's verdict on Jeanie's 5-to-1 odds is an instant classic — and Jonathan Kuminga turning down more Lakers money to join a Minnesota team John thinks might be the fastest in the league.

  • TST Is Coming to Television, the First NFL-to-College Player & the Award Stephen A. Didn't Want

A night of firsts. Arash Markazi joins with the announcement six years in the making: this is the show's final week on terrestrial radio — because The Sporting Tribune Today is coming to television. From the pandemic-era Mightier 1090 relaunch to TV: the full origin story gets told, and John's only career advice — keep the same energy — hits different on a night like this.

Then the sports world's own first: the Browns are waiving TE Daquan Wright, who has a deal in place to go BACK to college at LSU — the first NFL-to-college player ever. John's take: no rules broken, easy money, and the NBA should be terrified of the loophole.

Plus Kalshi lands partnerships across MLB — Dodgers included — and John's warning about gambling, ownership groups and money that was never liquid: "this feels very Ponzi." Tim Parker closes the night defending Stephen A. Smith against the NABJ award nobody wants, and John explains exactly why the backlash landed.

Full television details drop later this week.

  • The Browns Pick Deshaun Watson Over Shedeur, Jed York's Wild Weekend & Klay to Miami

The offseason was supposed to be quiet. Instead: Deshaun Watson is the Browns' Week 1 starter over Shedeur Sanders, and the crew — Grant, John Browner and Beav — isn't buying a word of the press conference. John's verdict: this decision came from the man who cut the $225M check, not Todd Monken, and no apology un-rings the boos that are coming. Beav calls it a slap in the face to Sanders and says the only move was cutting Watson and eating the money.

Then the story nobody had on their card: 49ers owner Jed York arrested in Ohio in a solicitation sting — John mounts a legalization defense while Grant and Beav make the optics case ("if it's not the power plant, it's the prostitutes"). Plus Giannis and Klay Thompson officially open the Heat era, and John names it instantly: Milwaukee with better weather — Klay is hurt Khris Middleton, Bam is a better Myles Turner, and six East teams are better.

The Wizards manifesto returns, and the show closes with an expansion fight: Seattle, Mexico City, Kansas City... or the San Diego team John would drive the Intuit Dome down the 5 for.
