Last night put a bow on Week 9 in the NFL as the Kansas City Chiefs held-off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in overtime to stay perfect on the season. New acquisition DeAndre Hopkins played a key part in the win, and that’s the kind of production that the rest of the NFL is hoping to find in their moves at today’s trade deadline. For the Washington Commanders, they landed Marshon Lattimore from the New Orleans Saints as they push for the playoffs. Staying in the NFC East, the Dallas Cowboys picked up wide receiver Jonathan Mingo from the Carolina Panthers.

Stepping away from the pros to the amateurs, Calvin recaps the college weekend, prompting a look at the 2024 Heisman Trophy race. College basketball tips off today too, and the preseason rankings are a bit odd. Closing out back in the NBA, Joel Embiid’s bad year got worse after he pushed a reporter in the locker room following a loss over the weekend. Was the former MVP out of line or was it the reporter.

Continuing with the NFL, the Denver Broncos got dominated by the Baltimore Ravens, coming off of completely opposite weekends in Week 8. Calvin doesn’t think the loss was as ugly as it looked, and believes Sean Payton didn’t help matters. In the NFC North, the Detroit Lions went into Lambeau Field and handled the Green Bay Packers. Winning on the road in poor conditions, Calvin is confident the Lions can reach the Super Bowl without home-field advantage throughout the playoffs if things came to that.

The San Antonio Spurs are entering a new era this season with the additions of Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes. Not even 10 games in, the team is already facing adversity, as Hall of Fame head coach Gregg Popovich is “out indefinitely”, dealing with health issues. Getting into the football weekend, the Dallas Cowboys lost to the Atlanta Falcons, losing quarterback Dak Prescott for the next few weeks. With so much going on, Calvin thinks the team should just sit Dak the rest of the year.

While football dominates the weekend, the NBA was cooking last night. Victor Wembanyama had another historic performance in Utah, delivering a second-career 5x5 (more than five each of points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks) as the San Antonio Spurs won over the Jazz. At the end of a three-game road trip, the Denver Nuggets have won two in a row after dropping the first two games at home. They look to make it three tonight in Minnesota against the Timberwolves. The Game of the Week in college is a top-four contest where #4 Ohio State is favored on the road against #3 Penn State. Closing out the week, Calvin gives out another edition of The Foundation Picks.

Continuing with a preview of Week 9 in the NFL, the Denver Broncos go from a heavy favorite last weekend to a steep underdog as they face the Baltimore Ravens (-9.5). The Ravens are looking to bounce back from their loss in Cleveland, making this a tough test for Bo Nix’s squad. The Game of the Week is going on at Lambeau where the Detroit Lions are favored -3 over the Green Bay Packers for the top spot in the NFC North. Last week, the Washington Commanders broke the hearts of the Chicago Bears, making this week’s test for Chicago against the Arizona Cardinals pretty telling about the young team.

Going into Thursday Night Football, many questioned why the New Jets were favored over the Houston Texans. Under the lights, they showed just why, getting constant pressure on CJ Stroud and clicking on offense. Jets WR Garrett Wilson was spectacular and delivered what should be the leader for Catch of the Year to this point in the season. Getting into the NFL Week 9 Preview, Calvin is starting in Atlanta, where the Falcons are -3.5 favorites over the Dallas Cowboys.

It’s all football to close out today’s show. The New York Jets are favorites on Thursday Night Football as they host the Houston Texans. As if Gang Green doesn’t provide enough drama, the Dallas Cowboys never disappoint in that department. Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs gave listed their top 10 current quarterbacks but failed to mention their own, Dak Prescott. Anthony Richardson has taken a lot of criticism this week, but there’s hope for him yet as analysts are noting that Josh Allen had a similar start in the NFL and he’s been able to turn it around.

The 2024-25 NBA season is young, but Calvin is already seeing some red flags in the 1-3 start for the San Antonio Spurs who fell to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night. Around the Association, the Cleveland Cavaliers spoiled Bronny James’ debut in his birthplace, but LeBron’s son did secure his first career points. Giannis Antetokounmpo has had the attention of many GMs around the NBA in recent years as the Milwaukee Bucks stray further and further from what made them champions a few years ago. Rumor has it the “Greek Freak” is unhappy and could be on the move as early as this season.
