Every sportsman knows the feeling of a season opener. Whatever happened last year — the buck that slipped away, the fish that broke off, the days that produced nothing — none of it matters when the new season begins. The slate is clean. The woods and water are full of possibility again.
Today marks Day 1 of a new year in this journey. God specializes in new beginnings. Through Isaiah, He told a people stuck in their past: forget the former things. Not because the past didn't happen, but because dwelling there keeps you from seeing what He is doing now.
Whatever last year held — victories or failures, answered prayers or long silences — today is a fresh start. God is doing a new thing in you. It is springing up right now. The question He asks is simple: do you not perceive it? Open your eyes to this new season. Walk into it expectant.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for new beginnings. Whatever I carried out of last season — regret, disappointment, even success that tempts me to coast — I lay it down today.
You are doing a new thing in my life. Give me eyes to perceive it and courage to step into it fully. Make this year one of growth, faithfulness, and deeper trust in You. Amen.
Challenge:
Day 1 of a new year: write down three spiritual goals for the season ahead — one habit to build, one relationship to invest in, one area of trust to grow. Keep the list where you'll see it all year
