This episode explores the healing of the centurion's servant from Matthew 8, highlighting how a Roman officer's humble recognition of Jesus' authority led to a miraculous long-distance healing. We unpack four movements of faith afterwards: seeking Christ, approaching with humility, investing in the relationship, and producing spiritual fruit. This miracle and the centurion's behavior calls us to examine whether our own professions of faith are matched by genuine, trusting submission to Christ's authority in every area of our lives.

In this episode, we take a brief detour into the first-century Jewish rabbinical system to see the unique way Jesus operated within it and beyond it. We follow the traditional path from the Beth Sefer through the Beth Midrash and on to the role of a traveling disciple. We then see how radically Jesus departed from that expected route. Rather than climbing the religious ladder Jesus left a respectable local position. He called unqualified fishermen and outcasts as His disciples and demonstrated that God’s kingdom is built on willing hearts rather than impressive credentials.

In Episode 2, we trace Jesus' final months of ministry as He moved with purpose from Galilee toward Jerusalem, strengthening His followers, expanding salvation's invitation to Gentiles and outsiders, and performing signs (most notably raising Lazarus) that confirmed His identity as the Son of God. The episode also explores key parables (the Good Samaritan, the friend at midnight, and the prodigal son) that reveal the shape of true relationship with God and others, all pointing forward to the cross and resurrection.

In this inaugural episode of the Standing Word Podcast, we explore how Jesus' public ministry began from his baptism and 40-day temptation in the wilderness to his Galilean ministry, where he performed miracles, taught in parables, and called his disciples in a way that defied the cultural norms of the day. The episode emphasizes that Jesus' ministry was not accidental but divinely prepared and purposeful, inviting listeners to take his yoke and follow him in their own everyday lives.
