  • A Name for Darkness

Come with me on a journey into the mythical era of the oldest ancestors of the Shining Ones. To a place in the ancient world that existed long before the Tuatha Dé Danann found their way to Ireland. I invite you into this sacred storytelling space to hear about the Ways of Nemed The Star Roads of Neimheadh and the origins of the WayMarker Frequencies that formed the foundations of the quantum magical practices of the oldest of the Wise Ones.

    Introduction

Hello, my name is Catherine Matheson and my calling as a sacred storyteller is to create beauty and magic to spark positive change in the world through druidic storytelling.

I am so glad that you are here. Welcome to The Star Roads of Neimheadh Podcast. This is Episode # 5 – A Name for Darkness.

    The ReCap

In Episode # 4 – The Ways of Scattering, we learned of the devastating decision of The People of the Tall Grass to abandon their lands and to invoke an ancient tradition that would see them divide into groups all heading in different directions. Numerous new partnerships followed, and each of Nemed’s four sons took wives. Iarbonel the Soothsayer and Eithne, the daughter of the Wisdom Keeper of The People of the Stones were among the last of these unions. She brought her gifts as an Air Mage to an already magical family. Soon after, these five gifted ones realized they carried parts of the same grim vision: That their clan faced a deadly journey; that a malevolent foe awaited them in The Veiled Land: and that the magic within that land held the keys to their clan’s future.

In Episode 5, preparations continue as the fateful day of the Ways of Scattering approaches, and Nemed’s clan and family try to name the darkness they will one day face.

    A New Star Road Emerges

“Hope is a fragile thing, and yet even a small glimmer of it will light the way along our darkest roads,” said Annind.

He had been repeating versions of this statement daily since he had convinced his parents and his brother and his brother’s new wife to hold secret their terrifying, shared vision about their clan, The People of The Horse.

“Tell me again what you see that we do not,” said Nemed. “Because I am having trouble seeing past the knowing that most of our people will not survive this journey. Add to that the understanding that those few who remain will have to fight a powerful enemy. And then, the magic of The Veiled Land will extend her magic to us only for the children of our future. There will be little help or hope for any of our existing generations.”

The day of The Ways of Scattering was almost upon them. At the next full moon, The People of the Land of the Tall Grass would be no more. They had divided into several dozen groups, and each would walk a different route away from the land that could no longer support or feed them.

Nemed and Annind were three days into a scouting tour of the first leg of the route their clan would follow. They were looking for the great spillway that would lead them west and north; a waterway fed by all the river valleys of their land. When they reached it, they would be in a far different landscape lush with trees where The People of the Horse would need to barter for ships with the people of that land – or build their own. The spillway led to the great inland sea, and then to other spillways and river channels that they would navigate, ever westward and sometimes north again, until they reached the westernmost edge of the landcape.

But finding future routes and building ships were problems for the seasons ahead. First, they had to find the right track to the nearest spillway. And on this evening in the gathering twilight, Nemed and Annind had set their camp in the shelter of a shallow cave a full days’ walk past the boundary that had been known and marked by the people of The Land of the Tall Grass for many centuries.

A boundary and a land that will soon no longer exist, thought Nemed as he waited for his son’s answer.

Annind took a long drink from the waterskin and then spent several long moments staring at the stars before he spoke.

“We have been called, we have been warned, and the brilliance of the magic that lives in that land is brighter and stronger and deeper by far than anything we can begin to imagine,” he said. “It beckons. I see it sometimes as a great river flowing from the Milky Way directly into its hills. Sometimes as a deep crystalline cave filled with oceans of shining, living elementals shimmering their power directly into the rocks and the trees and the creatures who make their homes there.”

He sighed. “And ever since Bithdhil told us of that land’s call, I have felt its pull. Like a great glowing sun, apart from the one we see in the sky each day. It’s like a new North Star has been formed just for us, and it’s drawing us along its path, along a road from here to there. A road that shines all around us, in every waking moment. And now that it has been revealed to us, we will know no peace until we choose to walk it.”

    Nemed’s eyes narrowed.

“Are you talking about a star and a road in the same breath?” he said. “Truly? As if a new Star Road is opening for our people?”

    Annind laughed.

“I guess I am saying that, yes,” he said. “That is exactly what has been trying to come through, though I had not quite put it together, yet.”

Nemed was silent for a moment. And then he said, “My son, the Earth Roads Seer. Seeing Star Roads now.”

Annind snorted. “Maybe it’s an Earth Road connected to a Star Road. And you would see it too, if you let yourself see past your fear.”

Not for the first time, Nemed regretted the way he had raised his sons to freely speak their minds. Something of this must have reflected in his expression in the firelight, because Annind’s face changed, too.

“Father,” he said. “It is only in speaking with you that this has fully come clear. In this very moment. It might be that it would only show itself in this way.”

Now it was Nemed’s turn to snort. He did so, and then he puffed out his chest in a familiar way that had once been used to keep his children in line, but in recent years had been used more to break the tension. Both knew Nemed was mocking his own father, the chief of their clan, Aignéan, who had no sense of humor.

Leaning toward Annind, Nemed glowered at him.

“Don’t try to make it softer,” he said. “You all but called me a coward.”

“You are anything but,” replied Annind, knowing his father’s words for bluster. He leaned forward too, with a smirk. “And you know that I’m right.”

Nemed’s glower dissolved into a grin.

“You are,” he said. “The way forward seems to show itself only when we look at the problem together. That seems to be how this whole thing is working.”

When the Pattern Shifts in Your Favor

Bitdhil wrapped her thin arms around her bony frame and then shook her head.

“They were two energies I’d not encountered before, ever, and they were as different, one from another, as bright sunshine is from the brutal depths of the deepest well,” she said. “And as comfortingly warm and savagely cold as that, too.”

Bitdhil knew, as they all did, that she was dying. She had not recovered from the End of Pattern ceremony in which she’d met the Spirit of The Veiled Land – who was the bright and warm energy that had delivered her from the savage and cold one which had mortally wounded her.

But she was here now and would live long enough to tell her people all she could about the call of the Spirit of The Veiled Land, and her plea for help in escaping from the brutal entrapment of that vicious and dark energy.

No one was surprised at her tenacity in staying alive this long. Bitdhil was a sacred Fire Keeper with legendary strength and skill. She had drawn on all she knew to keep the embers of her inner spark banked low; yet burning with the intensity she required to remember and discuss every detail of what had happened.

Briga, healer of The People of the Horse and Tamhnach, healer of the People of the Fire were still tending to her care, as she met every day with seers and wise ones who sat with her in her tent.

Among them today were Uarán, the Wisdom Keeper of The People of the Stones, Nemed’s wife Macha and his son Iarbonel, and Iarbonel’s wife Eithne. And because The People of the Horse were the clan that would answer the call of the Spirit of The Veiled Land, its chieftain, and Nemed’s father, Aignéan, was also present.

Bitdhil’s wisdom had begun to shine through her terrible experience as the days had passed. And as the gentle questions and insights of those around her guided her through layers of seeing and feeling and knowing and remembering, she had become an observer, no longer afraid or in pain as she delved deeper and deeper to read all she could read of these two energies.

As she spoke, she sparked images and knowing among the others, who leaned in and added their experience. In this way, they were crafting a shared vision that would help The People of the Horse better understand what they would be journeying toward.

Of the bright energy, Bitdhil saw what Annind was seeing. The brilliant magic, so strong and deep, by far, than even she who had journeyed furthest and deepest of all through the pattern for many long years, had ever encountered.

Her friends listened, rapt, as she told them more.

“A magic fed by starlight that pours from the centre of the galaxy,” she said, shivering. And then she looked up with a grateful smile as Briga draped a fur over her shoulders. Tamhnach stirred the hearth-fire after laying more medicinal herbs on a stone slab beside it. The warmth released their scent, making it easier for Bitdhil to keep her breath as she spoke.

“And there are telluric tides of crystalline light pulsing from the centre of the earth.” She said, closing her eyes and seeming to drift into a light trance. Her words took on a chanting quality as her face relaxed.

“The Veiled Land. Where such effervescent cosmic-born and earthborn currents meet. She is a jewel of green and gold. Once, she glowed like a diadem in her place on this planet. Her light shone across galaxies and through every dimension. Her light shone across the weaving of the pattern of the entire universe.”

“But no longer,” said Macha. “Her Light is much diminished, both on the earth plane and on every other plane connected to us.”

“That is true,” agreed Bitdhil. She lowered her head. The silence grew as all there waited for her to continue. After a time, she looked up again, and her eyes filled with tears.

“Little wonder perhaps, that the dark and cold and savage energy …” she sighed. “I do not know its name for itself, but we need to name it something.”

“I have been thinking about we should call it, too,” said Macha. She looked around the circle. “May I share what I see, Bitdhil, and ask everyone here for their ideas too?”

“Yes,” said Bitdhil, with obvious relief. “Please bring your thoughts forward.”

“You do not carry this burden alone, Flame Keeper. We are grateful for your wisdom in helping us understand what has stolen your life from you too soon,” said Macha.

She took Bitdhil’s hands in hers and looked deeply into her eyes. Bitdhil nodded, and then withdrew her hands to tuck them into the folds of her fur.

“I am grateful, dear Macha, Earth Seer,” she said.

    Macha turned to the others.

“It is a demon energy, I think,” she said. “And it is from a long-buried dimension of darkness, somewhere very far away, perhaps the outermost edges of the Otherworld. Almost intangible. But it is a predatory energy with boundless hunger and it seeks Light as its prey.”

Iarbonel the Soothsayer, the one who perceived all things of the in-between, leaned forward. “Almost phantom-like,” he said. “And able to perceive all parts of the great web, both above and below the weave. In its search, it beheld The Veiled Land. And when it saw her Light, her pure and brilliant Light, as Bitdhil began to tell us, it is small wonder that it began to hunt her. It hunted her Light for eons upon eons.”

Then Iarbonel’s wife Eithne the Air Mage spoke. “She calls herself The Veiled Land for a reason. As beautiful and as powerful as her magic is, she was protected in a dimension all her own. And even though her Light was visible across the planet and throughout every galaxy and across many dimensions, none could find her unless she allowed it.”

Bitdhil gasped as another layer of understanding was unlocked.

“But for every facet of beauty held by The Veiled Land, the darkness we speak of held an answering blight of deformity and corrupted shadow,” she said. “And there came a moment when the corrupted shadow found and engulfed the entire dimension that protected her. Like a great black slug with sharp teeth, it attached itself and it tore its way through the defences of the dimensional field that shielded her.”

A sharp crack of wood from the hearth in the centre of their circle snapped their attention back to the tent where they sat, breathless, shoulder to shoulder. As one, they remembered again to breathe.

“How has this dark energy not entirely consumed her magic and her Spirit?” asked Aignéan. “And how does she think our people, mere humans that we are, can possibly help her?”

Uarán held up both hands. “The answer to the first question is in naming it,” he said. “And Bitdhil is right, calling it by the right name important.” He turned to her. “And I see that it has shown itself to you.”

Bitdhil shifted her position, trying to find comfort, and then her eyes widened. She pointed to the flames.

    “Look,” she whispered.

A spiral of light brighter than the fire was forming and twirling, unbidden, in its centre. Rising, it was joined by several more spirals of light silently curling upwards, until the tent was filled with long twists of glowing golden light.

“When the Pattern shifts in our favor, and if we are paying attention, it sometimes shows itself,” said Bitdhil. “And when we are gifted with its presence in this way we can know we will succeed, no matter how unlikely it may seem in the moment.”

She looked around the circle, and it seemed to them Bitdhil was growing more pale as she spoke, even though her words and her voice took on a new strength.

“The Veiled Land told me what to call her, and now I perceive the name she has given to that which assaults her,” she said. “The dark energy has emerged from a deep place, Fo, and its presence is a nightmare, Mor. Its name is Fo-Mor.”

Then Bitdhil turned to Aignéan. Reaching for him, she grabbed his wrist. She was weak, and growing visibly weaker. Aignéan held his arm out so she could hold it with greater ease. “You know this already, but it must be said once more, in the presence of the Pattern and its gifts,” she told him. “And you must fully accept it now, even as the blessing is given to you.”

He bowed his head. “So be it,” he said.

Bitdhil nodded. “I need to stand,” she whispered. “Help me.”

Aignéan extended his other hand to grasp her elbow, and helped her up, rising with her, and supporting her, until they stood facing each other.

“Aignéan, chieftain of the clan of The People of the Horse,” she said. “Hear me now, for these are my last words. It is your Geis, and it is the Geis of your clan, to face this Fo-Mor, to defeat it and to free the magic of The Veiled Land for the future of the children of this clan and the future of all children for all time now and into the infinity of The Pattern that holds us all.”

She shuddered, and her chin drooped. Then she straightened and stared up into his eyes once more. “Take with you the blessing of all our people and of the Pattern itself. I pass along a wisdom sent to me along its threads now, spoken this day by your grandson, Annind, to your son, Nemed.”

She gathered herself, as if she was fighting to stay standing. Aignéan stepped closer, bracing her with his strength. “Hope is a fragile thing, Aignéan, and yet even a small glimmer of it will light the way along our darkest roads.”

Bithdhil exhaled, and her eyes fluttered. Then she fell, lifeless, into Aignéan’s arms.

    Introduction

Hello, my name is Catherine Matheson and my calling as a sacred storyteller is to create beauty and magic to spark positive change in the world through druidic storytelling.

I am so glad that you are here. Welcome to The Star Roads of Neimheadh Podcast. This is Episode 4 – The Ways of Scattering.

    The ReCap

In Episode 3 – The Veiled Land, we witnessed a ceremony in the subterranean stone chamber of The People of the Tall Grass. But their intention to close the pattern, to heal the pattern and then to set new lines for renewal of the pattern met an unexpected and deadly turning.

Sacred Fire Keeper Bithdhil of The People of the Fire traveled deep into the furthest edges of the inner weavings of the pattern with this task. But a black void blocked her way back, and she was able to return to her people only with the help of a Land Spirit who told Bithdhil she was captive to the void and caught fast in its grip. After barely surviving, Bithdhil delivered the message from the spirit to The People of the Land of The Tall Grass – calling on them to sail to the western edge of the world – to come to her, The Veiled Land, where the currents of the most ancient parts of the world’s rivers of magic run deep.

In Episode 4 – The Ways of Scattering we hear how The People of the Land of the Tall Grass respond to the call of The Veiled Land.

    The Ways of Scattering

“The great herds will see us through this winter, but in just a few seasons, they will be gone,” said Uarán. “Before this land can no longer feed our people, we must leave her.”

He looked up, gazing over the heads of the chieftains and the wisdom keepers from each of the 27 clans across The Land of the People of the Tall Grass. The spirits of their ancestors gazed back, peering at him through the smoke and the gloom of the crowded stone chamber. He closed his eyes and waited to see if any there disagreed – the ones sitting in the circle with him or the ones hovering above. After a moment, he opened his eyes and then he leaned forward, looking into the living faces of his people.

“And so it must be,” he said. “We will follow the ways of our old ones, the ancestors who found these lands in the long dark winters spoken of in the tales kept in the farthest ripples of the memories of our people. We will follow The Ways of Scattering, as they had to, when they were forced from the lands that were lost after the Great Rivening.”

There were nods and murmurs of agreement, even though tears coursed down many cheeks, including his own.

    The Most Dangerous Road

Briga’s tears were still flowing when she and Aignéan told Nemed and Macha and the rest of The People of The Horse that for the first time in hundreds of generations, The People of The Land of the Tall Grass would follow The Ways of Scattering.

According to the ancient stories, The Ways of Scattering were meant to keep as many people alive as possible through any great shift in the pattern. Whenever the world as it was known was ending, people divided into groups. Those too old or unwell to travel stayed behind. The rest, in groups of up to a few hundred individuals, would set out in different directions. This way, they knew, some would find a better place to live. Maybe all would, if their luck held. The most difficult part of The Ways of Scattering, however, was that once they left each other this way, it was probable that none would meet the others ever again.

But even though it meant leaving all the other clans, every member of The People of The Horse would stay together. This was partly why Aignéan and Briga had claimed the hardest path and the most uncertain. They chose the path that would lead them to the western edge of the world, because in the calculations of security and exploration and potential losses along the way, that path would require at least 400 people. It meant they could keep all 643 people in their clan together, other than the ones who would stay behind.

“It is a dangerous road and the losses along it may be hard,” Aignéan said, as he explained the choice to his clan. “But because we have always ranged along the outer edges of this land and we have always been the most adventurous among all the clans, it was agreed that we have the greatest chance of surviving long enough to find The Veiled Land.”

“And so it will be The People of the Horse who will answer the call to go there,” said Briga. “We are the ones chosen to find our way as far west as we can go; to face the dark force that has captured that beautiful land; and to free the deep river of magic she holds.”

    Nemed and Macha and Sons

Nemed who had lived most of his life as a Keeper and a Guardian of the Star Roads with The People of the Stones, and his wife Macha, would return to his birth clan, The People of the Horse. They would join their four grown sons, Iarbonel the Soothsayer, Fergus the red-sided, Starn the strong-handed, and Annind the Earth Roads Seer.

Macha was also an Earth Roads Seer, which meant that among the six of them, four held strong magic. While Macha and Annind walked the Earth Roads, and Nemed walked the Star Roads, Iarbonel walked the liminal spaces between the two. It had often been said that Nemed and Macha’s perfect partnership worked so well because between them, they could read both earth and sky. And when Annind and Iarbonel also stepped in to lend their gifts, the result was a collective ability to read everything, including all the spaces in-between.

And if Fergus and Starn held less than a drop of magic between them, their well-honed skills in the arts of tracking and hunting had helped keep them all fed and clothed and housed while their siblings and parents seemed to focus on everything except what the two brothers called the real world.

And as preparations continued through the winter months for The Scattering that would take place in the spring, each of the four brothers had found a wife from among the other clans. In fact, so many young men across all the clans took wives that winter, that every single person in The Land of the Tall Grass would be walking away from loved ones and taking newly acquired family members with them when the day of The Scattering finally arrived.

    Iarbonel and Eithne

Among the sons of Nemed, Iarbonel and Eithne were the last ones to step into their pairing, even though everyone knew it had always been inevitable. Their love had never been in question, but as the daughter of The Wisdom Keeper of the People of the Stones, Eithne had endured many weeks of Uarán’s discouragement of their match – and his determination that she would stay with her own clan. When Uarán finally bowed to Eithne’s equally stubborn will, his sorrow wilted at the sight of the smile that lit her face.

“I had seen this pairing in the stars even before you were born,” he admitted to his daughter then. “But I thought it meant I would be basking in the joy of all the grandchildren you will have to the end of my days.”

Her smile slipped and was lost then, as he buried his face in his hands. She had never seen him cry once as a girl, but he had wept often and openly over the past few weeks. As had she. As had they all. Their ancestors had walked this land and lived in these hills for more than a thousand years. The people they lived beside were people who had been a part of their community for millennia, too. All of it was falling away. And even though The Ways of Scattering seemed to feel like a final blow, none questioned its wisdom. But all grieved its hard truths.

    When Gifts Turn Grim

On the day Iarbonel and Eithne were bound together, they both seemed ill because both were so pale and quiet. When people asked what was wrong, they refused to say anything beyond the excuse that the Scattering was weighing on their minds.

But like Nemed and Macha, they were well suited in magic as well and as in other ways. Iarbonel was a Soothsayer who walked the liminal spaces between Earth and Stars, while Eithne was an Air Mage with an even more ethereal connection to places beyond the veil. And from the moment they chose each other in partnership, both had been visited by dreams and visions far beyond anything they’d ever known.

Nemed and Macha and Annind had some idea of what was happening, because they had experienced similar, if slightly less intense visitations.

Which is why the five of them met three days later, on a hill some distance away from the sacred site of The People of the Stones as the sun was rising. They sang together as it cleared the horizon, welcoming the new day. Then they stood, quietly, for several moments.

“Something I do not recognize is coming through,” said Nemed. “Something none of us yet understand. What seems to be clear is that we each hold a part, and it is so big and so strange, that none of us can fully hold all of it.”

They sat together on the ground. After each had spoken, they knew three things. First, most of their clan would not survive the journey to The Veiled Land. Second, the magic within this land held the keys to the future of their people. And third, a malevolent presence awaited them there, and they would have to fight in order to secure this future.

“And even with all the gifts we share between us, knowing what’s coming is not helpful,” said Macha. “If anything, it makes everything worse.”

“But I would never want to not know,” said Iarbonel. “Because now at least, we are not each of us alone with this. And somehow, I cannot tell you why, there is still hope.”

“That is good,” said Annind. “Because even though we have just begun to understand the loss and the pain and the sheer impossibility of what we face, we must find the strength to face it. And I think we are going to succeed.”

“What makes you think so?” asked Eithne. “Are you not overwhelmed?”

“Yes,” Annind answered. “I am. But you have all missed the small glimmer of light that runs through everything. And when we can see even the smallest of glimmers, then the hope we can build on will be more than enough.”

And then he leaned forward to explain.

  • The Veiled Land

    Introduction

Come with me on a journey into the mythical era of the oldest ancestors of the Shining Ones. To a place in the ancient world that existed long before the Tuatha Dé Danann found their way to Ireland. I invite you into this sacred storytelling space to hear about the Ways of Nemed, The Star Roads of Neimheadh, and the origins of The WayMarker Frequencies that form the foundations of the quantum magical practices of the oldest of the Wise Ones.

Welcome to The Star Roads of Neimheadh Podcast, which is telling an ancient origin story about the ancestors of the Tuatha Dé Danann. About Nemed, named in Irish mythology as the leader of the third wave to settle Ireland.

Episode 1 gathers the threads of this origin story, and episode 2 tells of Nemed’s birth in The Land of The Tall Grass, of his family and clan, and of his calling as a wisdom keeper. You can find background information for this story including a guide to characters referenced here on my Stories of Ancient Wisdom Substack, at catherinematheson.substack.com.

This is Episode 3 – The Veiled Land

    ReCap

In Episode 2 – End of Pattern, we stood with The People of the Stones in The Land of the Tall Grass as Nemed’s clan, The People of the Horse, told how they discovered why the great herds were disappearing.

Auroch and mammoth, giant deer and bison, musk ox and even the great herds of the massive horse had begun to vanish. Nemed’s clan had followed hundreds of giant deer to a boneyard in a hidden valley in the mountains where the big animals had simply lain down and died.

The leader of the wisdom school of the People of the Stones, Uarán, named the discovery as confirmation that End of Pattern had been reached. That the world holding the great herds and the way of life on The Land of the Tall Grass was over. Calling for courage, he claimed this knowledge as a gift.

“Because it gives us time to prepare for a new world to follow,” he said. “For new threads to read and a new pattern to weave.”

This is Episode 3 – The Veiled Land, and it tells what happened next.

    The Veiled Land

“Wisdom Keeper Bithdil, leader of The People of the Fire, I bid you now to travel the paths of the furthest parts of the inner weave of the pattern,” said Uarán. “Go now and close the doors to the gifts of the energies of that part of the pattern that are now departing.”

“Follow the Ways,” said Nemed, speaking in unison with all the other wisdom keepers gathered in the deep chamber.

The wisdom keepers of all the clans from across The Land of the Tall Grass were here in this moment, at this sacred site tended by The People of the Stones. They had answered the summons issued by Uarán several days ago after the devastating news delivered by the People of the Horse: the knowing that all the great herds were answering the call of The Mother; that their disappearance from this time and this place would continue across the planet until they were all gone.

There were also many from other dimensions present, including Star Cousins and wisdom keepers from other lands who had traveled across the Star Roads to arrive here in time for this ceremony.

They were here to participate in this Closing of the Pattern ceremony. It was an historic event. The last time something of this magnitude had happened was so far in the distant past that a series of rituals unlocking the deepest parts of their ancestral knowing about it had been necessary. And when they found out the ceremony held for that event (which is another story to be told elsewhere) had successfully re-set the pattern for nearly 30,000 years of relative peace, the unanimous decision to hold this one had surprised no one.

A partial blood moon was rising overhead, its presence felt rather than seen here in the subterranean sanctuary carved into the limestone ridge, and its towering central t-shaped rock pillars rising up from its floor of solid bedrock.

Uarán spoke the next part of the ceremony as they all watched the woman standing on the edge of the glowing hearth in the center of their gathering.

“As our Sacred Fire Keeper, your journey this night is to act as our pattern-finisher, our pattern healer, and our pattern renewer,” he said.

“Close the end of the pattern. Heal its edges. Set new lines for renewal,” intoned Nemed and the others.

Then Nemed stepped forward and placed one hand on Bithdil’s shoulder. She was a small woman with a serene face, and he looked down at her closed eyes, watching for the sign that would tell him she was ready to proceed. He knew her inner world was working to align her with the vibration she would need.

When Bithdil opened her eyes, her gaze inward, Nemed nodded at Uarán.

    She is ready.

And as she turned away from Nemed to look toward the hearth, he turned with her, one hand still on her shoulder. As she continued to gather herself, he tossed the herbs he was holding in his other hand onto the red-hot embers that burned evenly across the width of the fire pit.

The moment the familiar smell of sweet, scented smoke began curling upwards, Bithdil stepped forward, barefoot, into the pit. Without hesitation she strode into its center. Unharmed, in harmony with the heat of flame and spark, she raised her arms and began to sing, holding nothing back.

And then the full magic of the fire-born self-contained energy she held was revealed as she transformed into a Being of Fire. Wreathed in flames, she glowed in the centre of the hottest part of the fire pit.

“I winnow ash from spark,” she sang. “I thank the gifting of all that was. I bow before the pattern that ends. I wave to the lights of each that pass. I send them love as they recede. I send them peace on the new paths they take. I send them joy in their travels far from us. I close the door. I burn it shut. I close the ways between their paths and ours. The door is closed. The door is gone. The door will open, never, never, never again.”

    The Void in the Pattern

And then the human flame of Bithdil’s bright form flared incandescent until everyone there had to shield their eyes. And they heard her song echoing higher and farther until its vibration edged away from the range of what they could hear. And as her song moved beyond them, so too did the flame of her being. The too-bright flare faded, and then it seemed the fire in the pit was all that was left, burning, without her there.

But Uarán and Nemed and the Star Cousins and the Keepers who were there knew better. They knew Bithdil had begun the innermost part of her work. And that their task now was to hold the frequency she had gifted them with as she had burned so bright. To hold it as a net, as a beacon, as its own kind of doorway. To hold it open for her so she could return once her work was completed.

And they did this with their own energies and vibrations and light and voices. They had all been lent a spark of her fire that they now held and shaped and wielded among themselves.

Uarán alone held the soul-thread of her human form, anchoring her as she flew in her flame-bound elemental power, winding around and around, following the twists and the turns and clearing the ends of the pattern so that the ending itself could unfold in its cleanest and purest and most clearly intentioned manner possible.

And that’s how the leader of The People of the Stones was aware of the moment when Bithdil hit something unexpected on her final turn, just as she had begun her journey back to them. He experienced it as something sharp and wrong and deeply discordant. He could only imagine what it felt like for her and it was all he could do to make sure her soul-thread remained intact, working with it and sending his own light along it to help her find her way home.

His unease rippled across the sanctuary. The frequency faltered.

“Steady,” said Uarán. “She’s almost here. Hold steady.”

But the strain in his voice introduced an uncertainty they all had to absorb and transmute, each lending a portion of strength, each leaning in and doing their part to clear doubt away until the vibration she had left them with found its note once more.

Nemed stepped forward, helping Uarán OOR-awn by placing his hands upon the Wisdom Leader’s shoulders. And a good thing too, because the instant the frequency was restored, a harsh wave of something no one there had experienced before blasted through the corridor Bithdil had traveled and knocked them all to the ground, and at the same time delivering the Fire Keeper who fell into Uarán’s arms like a bundle of wet ash falling through a hole in the roof.

    Great Grief Coming

Ten days later, Nemed and his wife Macha were summoned by Uarán.

“Bring your seer-sons,” said Briga, who delivered the message. “Bithdil is awake and able to speak. And we need every insight we can gather.”

In the time it had taken Bithdil to recover, life had resumed in an odd kind of echo of the way things had always been, making it hard for the people of The Land of the Tall Grass to believe the world as they knew it was really ending. The Star Cousins and the keepers of other lands had all gone home, where they were awaiting word of what had befallen Bithdil.

Briga and the healer Tamhnach (TOW-nakh) of the People of the Fire had tended her, refusing to let anyone but Uarán see her until she had regained her ability to speak.

Nemed felt a shiver of raw fear run through his body as he walked with his family and Briga toward Bithdil’s tent.

    “Wait,” he said.

Turning away from them, he stood silent, waiting to see where the fear chose to settle. My heart. He placed a hand there and bowed his head, listening. The message hit him then, bringing an ache. Great grief coming.

He felt Macha’s arm around his waist.

“What is it?” she asked. When he told her, she nodded.

“I know,” she said. Then she looked at Annind and Iarbonel. They nodded, too.

“We’ve all been feeling it,” said Iarbonel.

Nemed leaned into Macha and then pressed his forehead against hers.

“And you didn’t tell me,” he said, kissing her cheek.

“I did not,” she said. “I knew you would feel it for yourself, soon enough.”

Briga clucked with impatience. “Whenever great grief comes you will face it,” said Briga. “Right now, we must hear what Bithdil has to say.”

    The Emerald Green Island

Uarán stopped pacing outside Bithdil’s tent when he saw them approaching.

“Come,” he said, and then he lifted the hide flap opening of the tent. They followed him inside.

A fire burned on a hearth at the centre of the tent. Tamhnach (TOW-nakh) was sitting beside Bithdil, who lay propped on a pile of furs next to the fire. The sacred fire keeper seemed to have lost half of her already scant body weight since Nemed last saw her, and he knew she would not live long.

“A steep sacrifice, sister,” he said to her as they settled in a semi-circle around her. “I am grateful for your return, even if it seems it will be for only a short time.”

Though Bithdil’s eyes were dull, she smiled at him. “The Mother is calling, and I will go home soon,” she said. “But I must share what happened during the pattern closing ceremony.”

“She has the strength to tell this only once,” said Tamhnach (TOW-nakh). “So let her tell it all before asking any questions.”

Bithdil stared into the fire for a long moment. Then she began to speak. Being chosen to complete the pattern closing ceremony was the greatest honor of her life, she said. If all had stayed in balance, she could have completed the closing, cleared away the energetic debris, and then set the lines for renewal before making her return while still in her Fire-Being form.

The first two things had been done. But as she rounded the last turn of the pattern with all the new lines of renewal in hand, she encountered a black void. It held grim faces and sharp teeth and grasping claws. She had fallen into it and lost her way for a time. And then she encountered something unlooked for, something strange and surpassingly beautiful.

It was an island of green, teaming with trees and fresh water and giant deer. It was an island besieged, for it was surrounded by that black void. Bithdil was caught and held and protected by the spirit of the island, and it helped her return, wrenching a path through the void and then pushing her along it to send her back toward the sacred sanctuary where her soul-thread, held by Uarán, still waited.

For an endless eternity she had battled through. Eventually, her fire quenched, she had fallen, flameless, back into the sanctuary.

“And this is the message I bring back for you,” she said. “There is an emerald-green land far to the west, and her spirit is calling out to our people. She holds a part of the world’s deepest river of magic. She is under threat. She keeps her name hidden, but she says we can call her The Veiled Land. And to find her, we must take many ships and then we must sail to the western edge of the world.”

  • End of Pattern

Come with me on a journey into the mythical era of the oldest ancestors of the Shining Ones. To a place in the ancient world that existed long before the Tuatha Dé Danann found their way to Ireland. I invite you into this sacred storytelling space to hear about the Ways of Nemed The Star Roads of Neimheadh and the origins of the WayMarker Frequencies that formed the foundations of the quantum magical practices of the oldest of the Wise Ones.

Hello, my name is Catherine Matheson and my calling as a sacred storyteller is to create beauty and magic to spark positive change in the world through druidic storytelling.

I am so glad that you are here. Welcome to The Star Roads of Neimheadh Podcast. This is episode 2, End of Pattern.

    ReCap

In Episode 1 – The Guardian of the Star Roads, we held three threads together in the weaving of a new part in the tapestry in the tradition of ancient druidic and mythological storytelling.

Thread one shows how the Tuatha Dé Danann are hailed by medieval historians, in the 11th and 12th centuries, as the mythical, original druids. And the druids destroyed by the Romans are hailed by historians of that time – in the 1st century – as the last of their historical kind.

The second thread shows how this speculative origin story for the Tuatha Dé Danann and the Druids is being channeled from an assembly of Shining Beings.

These first and second strands will stand in support for the braided weaving of this story, with the focus all upon the third thread moving forward.

The third thread is a tale about the mythical figure of Nemed, named by Irish medieval mythologies as the leader of the third wave to settle Ireland and the ancestor of both the Fir Bolg (the fourth wave) and the Tuatha Dé Danann, who were the fifth wave. This third thread also shows how Nemed, as a Guardian of the Star Roads, carries the deep knowledge of ages long past.

    The Land of Nemed’s People

Nemed was born among the People of the Horse in The Land of Tall Grass. It was named for the landlocked sea of waving swaths of green and gold, running from an endless plain in the north down the vast and winding course of the Mother River. Green and gold grasses surging along forests of towering oak and Hawthorn thickets before climbing the high hills and halting only upon reaching the knees of the mountains on the eastern, western and the southern borders of the land. The People of the Horse followed the circle of the seasons of the years by hunting the great herds, meeting with other clans for high feast days; and trading with the People of the Stones.

Nemed was the ninth son born to the chieftain Aignéan, and the third child of his third wife Sadb. Nemed was marked early as a knowing soul by Briga, his clan’s Wisdom Keeper.

Every clan of the People of the Land of the Tall Grass had its keeper, and every keeper in the land knew the stories of their ancestors and the old ways of being. They knew there were as many kinds of people in the world as there were leaves on the largest oak in the gathering grove. They knew by heart the stories of the heroes of many lands. They knew the peace of a world encompassed by the magic and the wisdom of the keepers of the ways.

The keepers in all lands revered the sovereignty of the landscape. They claimed kinship with all humans and with all that was beyond human, including trees and creatures and wind and fire and star cousins and beings beyond the veil. They kept the values of a circular economy in thanking the earth for its gifts and in wasting nothing. They planned and built toward the well-being of their children’s children. And their songs and stories preserved a living archive of families and histories and knowledge.

But all cycles are part of a pattern, and as the weather patterns began to shift and the herds of the great beasts began to diminish, the keepers watched and consulted together and spoke with their star cousins and understood that the balance of their days was also shifting.

It was into this time that Nemed was born. Briga spoke with Aignéan and Sadb about a vision she had the night before his birth, and then his parents told Briga of the strange dreams they had dreamed about their son. The signs were there for all to see, and all the people of Nemed’s clan agreed that he was a child born to walk the star roads.

During his fourth summer at a gathering of all the peoples of the land at the sacred site of the People of the Stones, when all children his age who showed promise of these talents were put through a testing, Nemed’s parents and Briga and his clan were proved right.

The leader of the Wisdom School of the People of the Stones, Uarán made a place for him, and following a ceremony held during the next new moon, Nemed began his training with a dozen other children his age. These young ones lived and learned side by side among a hundred older students and their teachers.

Nemed learned that each keeper holds tens of thousands of years of knowing and lives in deep harmony with the elements and the land and the animals and the stars. He learned ways of being that stretched back further than living memory can possibly reach; how to speak with other keepers across the planet; and how to communicate with the star cousins across unimaginable distances between galaxies. When he completed his training and stepped into his role as a keeper, he became a living map and a guardian of the star roads.

    End of Pattern

In the late autumn of Nemed’s fortieth year, the Horse Clan arrived unexpectedly at the sacred site of The People of the Stones, and they were carrying dark tidings. Aignéan asked his Keeper, Briga, to go at once and ask the leader of the People of the Stones for an audience. She soon returned with an invitation from Uarán. The chieftain brought Briga and her niece Macha along with his three wives and two of Nemed’s brothers to attend the leader.

Macha, who was Nemed’s wife, also brought two of his sons, Iarbonel and Annind. The three of them had traveled with the clan over the past year. Uarán had sent them, to help resolve a great mystery plaguing the land.

Nemed was among the company waiting with Uarán, and he was glad to see his wife and sons looked well, even though their faces seemed drawn with worry.

“We have come directly from the hunting grounds, where the herds are growing smaller every year,” said Aignéan. “That is not new. The counts we all keep have been showing us how ten years of little rain in summer and no snow in winter means the great beasts have less to eat. And every year we have been forced to hunt further afield.”

He bowed his head, and Nemed was startled to see the depth of emotion on his father’s face. He was quiet a moment longer before he looked up, pale and stricken, to stare into Uarán’s eyes.

“We are taking the same care we have always taken, culling only the weak and the old, leaving the young and the fertile, and thanking both creature and land for the bounty they give.

“But this year we learned something more about what is happening to the great beasts we have shared this land with as long as we have walked here.”

He gestured to Bregmál, who was Nemed’s oldest brother. Bregmál shared a grim look with Feradach, another of Nemed’s brothers, before stepping forward. As he did, he reached out to take Macha’s arm and gently pulled her forward, too, to stand beside him.

“We thought to search out this mystery before taking our winter allotment of deer,” he said. “We had been talking it over for days, whether to follow the herds for a time before beginning the hunt. And then Macha had a vision.”

Bregmál nudged her. “Tell them,” he said.

Macha’s keen eyes traveled across their faces until she found Nemed’s. When she spoke, it was to him, as though he was the only person there.

“I dreamed of you,” she said. “You were standing on a hill with me, and we were looking at the largest herd of giant deer I had ever seen. They were unsettled, bumping into each other and moving away from us.

“We watched them as they began to run towards the mountains. And then you turned to me and told me we had to follow them. You said: the place they seek holds the answer we need.”

All eyes turned briefly to Nemed and lingered on him long enough to register his response. His eyes widened briefly, but that was all. Everyone turned back to Macha.

She shrugged. “It ended the debate whether to hunt right away or whether to watch the herd for a time first,” she said. “So we went out. Iarbonel and Annind, Briga and Bregmál, Feradach and me. When we noticed a large group of the giant deer heading away from the rest of the herd, we followed them.”

Nemed wondered at this. The wintering grounds of the herds in the canyons and hidden valleys of the mountains were well known to all the clans. All there knew this. But something had shaken all every member of The People of the Horse, including his father. And his wife and his sons. And every one of them, young and old, had made the long journey back to bear witness to the story they were telling. So, along with everyone there, Nemed stayed quiet and continued to listen.

As if sensing their skepticism, Macha’s voice sharpened, before it broke.

“They did not stop at their usual winter place,” she said. “They reached it and kept going. They did not even stop to rest. They just kept going. Until …”

Her eyes swam with tears. Bregmál, his eyes brimming too, put an arm around her shoulders.

Feradach stepped forward to stand on Macha’s other side. “They kept going until they reached a valley we had not seen before. It is a place hidden deep in the eastern mountains. It is a long way. I am not sure we could find it again. We traveled for a long time, following them, and their trail was so complicated that we wondered if we would be able to find our way back out again.”

He faltered and then glanced at Macha and Bregmál. His lower lip began to tremble.

“And what we found there …” he said, gulping. After a time he added, “… was terrible.”

With a heavy sigh, Briga now stepped forward. “Hundreds of animals,” she said. “Dead. Long dead, not long dead, and dying. The ones we followed just stepped among them and then laid down and did not get up again. They laid there until they too, were dead.”

“Hundreds of them. But they were laying on untold thousands of bones,” said Bregmál.

“And in the counting, I saw a truth I did not wish to see,” said Macha. “A truth that I do not wish to speak now.”

She looked around, as if hoping she would be asked to stop talking. When no one responded, she looked at Nemed again and spoke to him as if this were the only way she could get the words out.

“This is happening to all the great beasts,” she said. “The herds are growing smaller each year because more and more of them are traveling to their dying grounds where they are just laying down … and dying.”

“Do they carry a sickness?” asked Uarán. “Were they ailing? What possesses them?”

    Briga’s shoulders slumped.

“Here is what we observed after watching a herd of more than a thousand great deer; already seeing it was diminished by half over last year,” she said. “This is a herd we have followed and hunted for countless generations. Over all those years this herd never held less than10,000 individuals. We were already mourning their losses since we last had seen them.

“We were watching when a strange feeling seemed to pass among them one bright and clear afternoon. When 306 of them chose to leave the main herd. First, we saw that it was like a coming together of animals from every family group. No sickness of body that we could see. No feeling of panic or fear in any of them. Only a kind of calm determination.

“Second, a strange signal seemed to pass among them, because all at once a great bugling and huffing rose up from the entire herd as the gathered ones began to walk away. As if they were being acknowledged. As if there had been a call and those were the ones who responded. And after that we knew what we had to do. We followed them into the mountains to their dying place.”

“The Mother is calling them home,” said Iarbonel the Soothsayer. “Not all of them at once. But great numbers of them, at certain times. And she will continue to call them, every one of them from all the great herds, until they are all gone from this land.”

After a stunned silence, Uarán spoke.

“I feel the vibration of truth in all that you have seen and experienced, and the pain it brings holds the thread of another, greater and even more painful truth. It confirms the ending of a part of the pattern we have long been watching. It means that our world, as we know it, is ending.”

He spoke again before the cries reacting to his pronouncement of doom had faded. And as he spoke, his face was alight.

“Courage, dear ones,” he said. “If we can see the signs and accept the warning they carry, and if we can accept this warning as a gift, then we can plan to meet what is coming. Because it also gives us time to prepare for a new world to follow, for new threads to read and a new pattern to weave.”

Music by Giovanni Rapiti from Pixabay – Godiva’s Grace: A Sacred Celtic Journey

Come with me on a journey into the mythical era of the oldest ancestors of the Shining Ones. To a place in the ancient world that existed long before the Tuatha De found their way to Ireland.

I am a former journalist and communications specialist. I am a mother and a grandmother. I am a mystic and a channeler. I have walked through many thresholds gathering life experiences and lessons, skills and intuitive insights, and grief and grace and spiritual clarity before arriving here to be with you.

This podcast is the spoken continuation of the WayMarker Frequency series on my Substack, Stories of Ancient Wisdom. That series built the vocabulary. This is where the vocabulary is transmuted into oral storytelling, which is, in itself, a foundational quantum magical practice and an essential druidic storytelling tradition.

Whenever it finds its way to you, I’d like you to know it was launched just as the Moon turned full in Aquarius on July 29, 2026. Full moons are culmination points, not beginnings, and this is fitting because this podcast is bringing to fruition something that has been developing throughout my lifetime, and over the past four years, and also since my return to Substack in March of this year. Aquarius is about collective transmission, shared vision and sending signals out to reach whoever they are meant to reach. So no matter when this reaches you, I trust it is finding you at the right moment. This is also the last full moon before eclipse season: and launching now means this is coming to you from a moon standing in liminal space, on a threshold, and in a pivotal moment, astrologically speaking.

Before we step into this episode though, three things. First: what follows is speculative, channeled storytelling, not historical claim, offered alongside reference notes for the historical material, but not as scholarship. Second: I use Irish words throughout with real reverence but no fluency. I’ve done my best with pronunciation and meaning, and I welcome correction. And third: my beta listener told me this information lands in the body before it lands in the mind. You don’t have to make sense of it as you go. That’s allowed.

I am so glad that you are here. Welcome to The Star Roads of Neimheadh Podcast.

Part 1: Why Druidic Storytelling Traditions Matter Now

Who were the Druids and why are their storytelling traditions still important? The answer begins to emerge if we run a quick historic scan, starting almost a million years ago.

Our living memory may not recall a time when humanity has faced such a multiplicity of existential crises, but we know world-changing events do happen.

Science tells us that 900,000 years ago (during the Middle Pleistocene era) a catastrophic climate shift dropped the population of our most ancient human ancestors to just over 1,000 individuals.

74,000 years ago (Paleolithic era) a mega volcano erupted, and the resulting decade-long volcanic winter reduced the human population to perhaps 10,000 people.

And about 12,000 years ago (Younger Dryas) there was another mega-extinction, possibly caused by the impact of a massive comet, wiping out perhaps half of the nearly 10 million people who were alive at that time.

Across every era these survivors left a symbolic trail pointing to the creation of the universal human belief that the world is alive with spirits. Their capacity to see the world as a web of ongoing connections became a kind of relational intelligence that formed the foundations for what would become druidism.

For at least the last 300,000 years, specific sets of beliefs and rituals have evolved into the polytheistic and nature-driven spiritual practices of druidism and animism and paganism. This epoch-long depth of knowledge represents the soul-deep strength of humanity’s archetypal spiritual roots.

Tribal animism sparked advanced symbolic behavior and cooperative social networks. Paganism focused on deities of the sky and the earth. These spiritual pathways all helped humanity turn the trauma of near extinction into a cultural evolution that helped them build resilience.

For hundreds of millennia our ancestors saw time in terms of spirals and sacred geometric patterns. Not as a straight line. They created and worked with an operating system of druidic knowledge and practice that helped humanity survive. They knew world-changing events were not the end of the world. Only the end of a cycle.

By reclaiming ancient druidic storytelling traditions, we can weave the frequencies of beauty and peace-centred intention into our lives and into the lives of others. Frequencies that can carry us through the endings of cycles that may last longer than we would like. And we can trust that we are moving forward, into the beginning of a new cycle that will inevitably follow.

Part 2: The Tuatha Dé Danann and the Druids

The storyline being woven here is about the Ways of Nemed, The Star Roads of Neimheadh and the origins of the WayMarker Frequencies.

The first thread in this storyline holds the Druids and The Tuatha Dé Danann. I have been writing about them since my return to Substack in March 2026, and assuming that you know about them and the magic they hold; but we want this first thread to set well, and so we will speak them into this moment.

The Tuatha Dé Danann are said to be the world’s first druids. Medieval Irish texts like the Lebor Gabála Érenn also known as The Book of Invasions, tell us the Tuatha Dé Danann were a mythical people who learned their druidic magic in four long-lost northern cities before bringing it to Ireland. Their name translates as the people of the goddess Danu, a mysterious goddess because there are no surviving stories about her. She has been called, at times, the Divine Mother, the Goddess of Flowing Water, and the Earth Goddess who holds the Sovereignty of the Land.

The druids of the Roman Empire era are real people described by Greek and Roman philosophers and by Julius Ceaser as an influential intellectual and spiritual order of advisors and leaders within the Celtic world; and were known particularly for their roles as judges, bards and priests. It is believed the Romans destroyed them all, massacring the last living druids of that time, in the middle of the first century, on the island of Mona, (now called Anglesey), near the coast of northwest Wales.

So the Tuatha Dé are hailed by medieval historians, in the 11th and 12th centuries, as the mythical, original druids who lived perhaps 5,000 years ago. And the druids destroyed by the Romans about 2,000 years ago are hailed by historians of that time – in the 1st century – as the last of their historical kind.

If you’re keeping track, this timeline tells us that historians acknowledge the existence of druidic wisdom in the world for a mere 3,000 years.

This is the first thread of the storyline being woven here: how the Tuatha Dé were the first ones, and how the druids destroyed in Wales were the last ones.

Hold this thread with me, lightly, as this weaving continues.

Part 3: An Oenach of Shining Beings

The second thread of this storyline comes from no official or recognized source. The information in this thread explains how I met and then began to channel conversations with an assembly of Shining Beings.

You may be pleased to hear that the 40-year mythic cycle that was my journey to that point will not be covered in its entirety here. Just the highlights, and then a little about my understanding of who these Beings are.

After experiencing a sudden and unexpected and intense and profound spiritual awakening in my 20s without guidance or understanding, I spent the next 30 years trying to process its raw, ungrounded energy while navigating a traditional life and raising children and building a career. Grounding and stabilization were finally found during my first trip to Ireland in my late 50s. But it spelled the end of my career, because my body and my spirit flatly refused to accept my return to a corporate job. My professional persona cracked wide open, working in an office was no longer an option, and I accepted a medical retirement.

But the magic that found me in Ireland was just getting started. I went back, twice more. Each time the goal was to stand with the stones, to visit sacred sites, and to journal. During one trip four years ago, the assembly of Shining Beings showed up, and kept me up at night for the whole time I was there, pouring their messages straight through me and into my journals. It felt like standing in the middle of a stadium, with every seat filled with Shining Beings, and with every one of them wanting to tell me a story.

And after working with them over the last four years and learning, quite literally, to simply be their scribe, they have leaned in, revealed more, and asked me to hold nothing back in sharing all they have to say with you.

And I now know it isn’t a stadium. It’s more of an Oenach. This is Irish for a large gathering of a tribe or a clan or a council on a hilltop. And these Shining Beings are not Druids. They are also not Tuatha Dé. These are the ones who taught the ones … who taught the ones who taught the ones … who became the Tuatha Dé. And then taught the Druids.

These are the Oldest of the Old Ones who have stepped forward. And they are not here to tell thousands of stories. They are here to bear witness to one story. And they want to tell it to you. To help you remember the human-earth-universe multidimensional and harmonic frequencies of quantum magic that you hold.

Because, like the era they lived in, humanity is at a crossroads. And because these Oldest Ones want to help you recognize your memories and ideas and visions when you see them. Because the remembering is emerging within you, even as it is emerging in people across the planet. And because it can help us as we face our own version of what they lived through.

This is the second thread of the storyline being woven in this episode: how a speculative origin story for the Tuatha Dé Danann and the Druids is being channeled from an assembly of Shining Beings. Not to claim truth or to discredit all that has been written and all we know about druidic wisdom. But to align the frequencies of knowing through sacred storytelling to help you remember the ancestral magic that you hold, so that you may connect with whichever ancient wisdom stream is calling you.

Hold this second thread with me, as this storyline weaving continues.

Part 4: The Ways of Nemed, The Star Roads of Neimheadh and the Origins of the WayMarker Frequencies

You are holding two threads with me. Now it’s time to pick up the third. This one contains the Ways of Nemed, The Star Roads of Neimheadh and the origins of the WayMarker Frequencies.

It also holds the image of a man standing alone on a rocky shore, looking out at the sea. He has just landed in Ireland with what is left of his people. And he holds such knowledge. Not written on pages in a book. In his mind, in his heart, in his soul. He is one of a handful of Wise Ones, part of a diaspora spread across the planet who now hold everything that is left of an entire world of wisdom. Tens of thousands of years of knowing. A culture that lived in deep harmony with the elements and the land and the creatures and the stars. He understands ways of being that stretch back further than living memory can possibly reach and he knows how to speak with the star cousins across unimaginable distances between galaxies. He is a living map, a keeper and a Guardian of the Star Roads.

And everything that lives in him will survive in this part of the world only if he is able to transmit it to others.

    His name is Nemed.

Irish medieval mythologies speak of his legend. He is said to be the leader of the third wave to settle Ireland and the ancestor of both the Fir Bolg (the fourth wave) and the Tuatha Dé Danann, who were the fifth wave.

Nemed is a liminal figure, holding the space between human and divine. His name literally means sacred grove, sanctuary and privileged. Its Celtic root, Nemos, means sky or heaven. And we are using Neimheadh as the word for the personal sphere of energy each human holds.

The placement and legend of Nemed is a kind of historical hinge, moving from completely human to something extraordinary. The two waves of settlement before him died out, leaving no descendants. Legends say that Nemed’s people struggled and died too, but their survivors scattered and then returned, becoming the ancestors for three subsequent bloodlines: the earthbound un-magical people, the Fir Bolg; the ones who went north and returned transformed as the magical Tuatha Dé; and the ones who settled in Britain to become ancestors of the Britons.

Man or myth, this moment when Nemed is said to have lived seems to mark the last point in the mythologies where humans and divine beings are undivided. He is the person holding the framework for everything that follows. And this liminal, pivotal, hinge moment is the place where the third thread that holds the Ways of Nemed, the Star Roads of Neimheadh and the origins of the WayMarker Frequencies can be found.

And within this thread we learn that for a long age before the people of Nemed ever arrived in Ireland, and long before humanity’s connection to its named traditions fragmented, there was one global network, a connected mycelium-like order of keeper-clans, sacred sites and shared ways. And we learn that Nemed carried his wisdom like a piece of the last whole-cloth tapestry containing every thread of the ancient knowledge of that past age. This knowledge is known as The Ways of Nemed. Remembering and keeping this knowledge, learning and working with it, and telling and transmitting it to those whom it seeks is a part of what it means to be Walking the Star Roads of Neimheadh.

And one portal to these ways and to these star roads that I have been shown, is through the elements used within Druidic storytelling. Because they are much more than literary devices. They are an actual map into that knowledge.

Each WayMarker describes part of the natural flow of energy between humans, the land, the universe and the ancestors. Following the ways means you move with the flow instead of fighting it. Each WayMarker also holds its own power as a magical/quantum ability. It holds an active frequency that can help you change your relationship with time and space and matter. Here’s the best part. You can do this right now. You don’t have to become superhuman or study for decades to learn these abilities.

That’s because when you engage with these ideas, you tap into a phenomenon in quantum physics called Sympathetic Resonance. Like what happens when you place a tuning fork close to another one and then strike one of them. Even though they are not touching, if they are tuned to the same frequency, the other will begin to vibrate.

This is the secret power of stories. When you read them or hear them or watch them, and you resonate with them, the feeling in your chest is actually a quantum leap. You’ve shifted your frequency to match it.

What’s becoming clear now is that at the beginning of the WayMarker Frequency series on Substack in April, when I called them the long-lost map of the Tuatha Dé Danann, I had not yet fully comprehended where they came from. Now I am beginning to see they are a part of the tapestry of ancient knowledge carried by Nemed.

The five WayMarker Frequencies we’re working with are:

    1. Geis, spiritual law, which is based on wielding your inborn spark.

    2. Dinsenchas, reading earth’s memory, which is based on the sacred laws of the land.

    3. Fite Fuaite, knowing, reading and weaving fate’s threads, which is based on the multidimensional patterns of the universe.

    4. Rosc, singing life true, which is based on speaking the deepest truths of the universe and calling them into manifestation.

    5. Alltar, walking the star roads, which is your key to the Otherworld.

This is the third thread of the storyline being woven in this episode: how the mythical figure of Nemed stands in a pivotal place and what that means for humanity as a whole, not only for ancient Irish histories and mythologies; how the knowledge he carries is the last whole-cloth tapestry containing every thread of the ancient knowledge of a long age past known as The Ways of Nemed; how the WayMarker Frequencies are part of the map into this knowledge, and how the remembering and transmitting of this knowledge is a path that is known as Walking the Star Roads of Neimheadh.

Braided together, the three threads show us this: that the Tuatha Dé Danann were perhaps the most talented practitioners of the druidic arts, but they were not the first; and the Druids of the Roman era may have been the last remnants of the fraying threads of the whole cloth of the tapestry of druidic knowledge, but for so many reasons, including worldwide ongoing interest and the existence of modern Druidry, they were not the last.

And now that we hold all three threads of this storyline, having come this far, we will be able to step right into the story itself in the next episode. The first and the second strands will stand as support for the braided weaving of this story, and the third thread will be our focus moving forward.
